  1. 1. Multiple-Emitter Super-resolution Imaging using the Alternating Descent Conditional Gradient Method

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Dolev Illouz; [2023]
    Keywords : super-resolution; alternating descent conditional gradient method; ADCG; multiple-emitter localization; nanoscale imaging; single molecule tracking; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the state-of-the-art 2D super-resolution technique alternating descent conditional gradient (ADCG) method's ability to accurately localize fluorophores in diffraction-limited single molecule images (SMI) and analyze the impact of pre-processing and post-processing modules on ADCG's fluorophore localization. A synthetic dataset obtained from the 2013 Grand Challenge localization microscopy and a temporally linked dataset obtained from an unpublished set of Optical DNA mapping experiments performed by Jonathan Jeffet at the NanoBioPhotonix Lab at Tel-Aviv University were initially segmented to extract their noise parameters. 2. 2. Approaches to Structural Characterization of a Heteromeric GABA(A)R

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Alexander Stevens; [2023]
    Keywords : Applied Physics; Biophysics; Molecular Biophysics; GABA A R; LGIC; pLGIC; Tillämpad Fysik; Biofysik; Molekylär Biofysik; GABA A R; LGIC; pLGIC;

    Abstract : Structural biology has become an important part of researching various diseases and drug development. In this thesis, I provide details on how I worked with approaches to structural characterization of a heteromeric GABA(A)R. READ MORE

  3. 3. X-ray-induced intermolecular reactions in mixed clusters

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Astrid Bergman; [2022]
    Keywords : molecular cluster; biophysics; X-ray;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to study what mixed cluster fragments were formed in the interaction between radiation and H2O-CO2 clusters formed by adiabatic expansion, both experimentally and using simulations. The experiment was done using a mass spectrometer at the MAX IV synchrotron facility and by studying the time-of-flight of the ionic fragments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling of gene regulatory and spatial mechanisms which pattern the early human neural tube

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Fredrik Bertilsson; [2022]
    Keywords : Biophysics; systems biology; gene regulatory networks; neural tube; isthmic organizer; midbrain-hindbrain boundary; WNT; FGF; morphogens; reaction-diffusion; finite-difference; 3D modelling; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Tissue patterning during development is thought to be driven largely by gene regulatory responses to spatial gradients of molecular signals, known as morphogens. In this thesis, early patterning of the human neural tube is studied using two different gene regulatory network models. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards an understanding of the Retraction of TYPE IV PILI as a Mechanoresponse upon surface contact in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Antoine Loussouarn; [2022]
    Keywords : Mechanosensing; Microscopy; Bacteria; Microfabrication; Genetics; Molecular Biology; Biophysics;

    Abstract : Pseudomonas Aeruginosa is an opportunistic bacterium which is involved in nosocomial infections and which causes increasing concern in healthcare due to its high antibiotic resistance. During an infection by P.aeruginosa, the bacteria proliferate in the host’s organism by leveraging motility abilities. READ MORE
