  1. 1. Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    University essay from Chalmers tekniska högskola/Institutionen för fysik (Chalmers)

    Author : Lovisa Gotby Westlund; [2017]
    Keywords : IMPT; SBRT; HCC; 4DCT; interplay effect; robust planning;

    Abstract : This is a preliminary study investigating the advantages and drawbacks of using intensitymodulated proton therapy (IMPT) in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)and compares this treatment modality with photon stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT). One patient, previously treated with photon SBRT, has been replanned and bybenefiting from the protons finite range and the fact that most of the dose is deposited inthe Bragg peak, proton treatment plans which efficiently spare the organs-at-risk (OARs)have been generated. 2. 2. The lifeboat - A study on how different practical operations is done with a lifeboat

    University essay from Chalmers tekniska högskola/Institutionen för sjöfart och marin teknik

    Author : Anja Divkovic; Henrik Dahlrot; [2015]
    Keywords : IMO; SOLAS; STCW; LSA; LIFEBOAT; IMMERSION SUIT; EMBARKATION; SEA ANCHOR; OARS; HTA;

    Abstract : This study investigates how various practical operations is carried out in a lifeboat, to compare how it performed during an experiment, with what regulations frameworks. To check if there is a difference between how works is done and how work is imagined to be done. READ MORE

  3. 3. A comparative treatment planning study of radiotherapy of clinical liver- and stomach-cancer cases with either photon or proton beams

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum

    Author : Gracinda Mondlane; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : There has been an increasing interest in proton beam therapy (PBT) in recent years related to the advantageous depth-dose characteristics of proton beams compared to what is achievable with standard external photon beam radiotherapy (RT). With PBT, improved target dose conformity can be achieved together with a reduction in the dose to the organs at risk (OARs). READ MORE

  4. 4. Radiobiological plan optimization in Proton therapy for Prostate tumors using a Patched Integrated Edge [PIE] technique

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum

    Author : Marcus Fager; [2013]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Purpose: A novel treatment planning technique using proton pencil beam scanning (PBS) is proposed that takes advantage of the increased Linear Energy Transfer (LET) at the distal edge of proton beams to deposit the increased biological effective dose related to the elevated LET protons within prostate tumors.Background: The availability of proton treatment for cancer has increased the latest decade and will continue to increase rapidly in the coming decade. 5. 5. Prototype Development of an A-Mode Ultrasound Based Intrafraction Motion Management System

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknik och hälsa (STH); KTH/Skolan för teknik och hälsa (STH)

    Author : Abebe Hailu; Fredrik Lundqvist; [2013]
    Keywords : Intrafraction motion management; A-mode ultrasound; stereotactic body radiation therapy; ultrasonic distance measurement; embedded system;

    Abstract : Owing to the steep dose fall-off curves of high precision and accuracy radiation therapy (RT) modalities such as stereotactic body RT (SBRT), treatment plans with extraordinarily small margins to organs at risk (OARs), such as the spinal cord, has been made possible. With this development, patient movements during treatment, i.e. READ MORE
