  1. 1. Historical mining of Fe-Ca ore in Garpenberg, Sweden. : A study based on lake sediment geochemistry from Finnhytte-dammsjön.

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Morgan Eliasson; [2023]
    Keywords : Paleolimnology; Lake sediment; XRF; Garpenberg; Mining history;

    Abstract : It is well established that mining and metallurgy on a larger scale in Sweden originated in Bergslagen. The historical mining district Garpenberg in Bergslagen presently show the oldest signs of mining in Sweden (2300 BP) based on a study of a lake sediment profile from Gruvsjön. READ MORE

  2. 2. Geochemical impact of a bloomery : Tracing a bloomery furnace in peat records with geochemistry in central Sweden

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Philine Thöle; [2016]
    Keywords : Geochemistry; Bloomery furnace; Iron production; Paleolimnology;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to work out whether bloomery activities might have left a geochemical imprint in two mires close to a known bloomery and identify differences between the geochemical signals in the mires. Therefore two peat profiles (140 cm deep) and a series of bulk samples (composite of 10-60 cm) were taken near the remains of a bloomery close to Ängersjö, Hälsingland, which has one documented radiocarbon date of AD 1300-1435. 3. 3. Relation between Contemporary Water Chemistry and Historical pH from Paleolimnology to Estimate Reference Conditions in Swedish Lakes : Development of a simple tool for acidification assessment

    University essay from Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Ivonne González; [2012]
    Keywords : Water Framework Directive; Sustainable Development; Reference Conditions; Good Ecological Status; Paleolimnology; Acidification Assessment;

    Abstract : Abstract: Acidification was categorized as the main environmental problem in Scandinavia during the 1960’s. Fortunately for Sweden, as with other countries in Scandinavia, has shown a process of recovery from acidification, by emission control. Further Sweden has had an extended liming program to mitigate the effects from acidification. READ MORE

  4. 4. Paleolimnology : A literature review

    University essay from Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : William Lidberg; [2012]
    Keywords : Diatoms; Lake Sediment; Eutrophication; Acidification; Climate change;

    Abstract : The aim of this literature study is to compare and discuss different fields of paleolimnology, with a focus on three main research areas – eutrophication, acidification, and climate change. Pioneering work and the development of paleolimnological methods around these three areas were reviewed and synthesized. READ MORE
