  1. 6. MANGO - Generating 2D-Magnetic Field Maps From Normal-Conducting Magnets Of Experimental Areas

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Ambre Visive; [2023]
    Keywords : Applied Physics; Particle Physics; MANGO; Magnetic Field Maps; Normal-Conducting Magnets; Finite-Element Modelling; Opera-2D; Git Repository; Python Package; Beam Lines; Experimental Areas; CERN; Tillämpad Fysik; Partikelfysik; MANGO; Magnetfältskartor; Normalkonduktiva Elektromagneter; Finit Elementmodellering; Opera-2D; Git Repository; Python Package; Partikelstrållinje; Experimentområden; CERN;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the development of MANGO, a tool created to model normal-conducting magnets which were installed in the 1970s in the experimental areas at CERN, and store their analysis. MANGO formulates an answer to two problems faced by the physicists of the Beam Department when they model a beam line: first, how to produce new magnetic field maps and, second, how to easily access existing ones? It contains a multi-use package that offers an automated process to produce magnetic field maps from finite-element models of magnets. READ MORE

  2. 7. Experiments and simulations of gas flow through a NiCd battery

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Sarah Petersson; [2023]
    Keywords : NiCd; battery; porous medium; experiment; CFD; NiCd; batteri; poröst medium; experiment; CFD;

    Abstract : This report describes the thesis work carried out regarding experiments and simulations of the gas flow through a NiCd battery. The objective of the work was to investigate how different geometries of the flip top vent on the battery and the level of porosity of the flame arresting disc impacted the amount of potassium carbonate created at the outlet of the vent. 3. 8. Combustibility study of resin for warm magnet coils used at CERN

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Juan Carlos Lopez Santiago; [2023]
    Keywords : Epoxy resin; flammability; radiation; aging; cone calorimeter; micro combustion calorimeter; thermogravimetric analysis; lateral ignition and flame spread test; chemical composition of polymers; polymers; epoxy composite; polymer composite; failure of epoxy resins; magnetic coil; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : CERN is the world's largest particle physics laboratory, housing multiple accelerators that rely heavily on magnetic coils. These coils are integral to the generation of powerful magnetic fields essential for particle accelerator experiments, detectors, and other equipment. READ MORE

  4. 9. Defining dark jets at the particle level

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Gustav Lindberg; [2023]
    Keywords : Particle physics; Dark matter; QCD; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : One hypothesis that attempts to explain dark matter is dark QCD, which suggests that there would be a dark sector made up of dark quarks. Dark quarks would interact with each other through dark QCD similar to how Standard Model quarks interact with each other through Standard Model QCD. READ MORE

  5. 10. Representations of Three-Body Interactions In Physics

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Joel Johansen; [2023]
    Keywords : Three-Body Interactions; Two-Body Interactions; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The thesis explores an already developed symmetry adapted representation of a two-body interaction with the main goal of extending the method to also include three-body interactions. The method considers a space of shifted one dimensional Gaussian particle densities which are used, together with their corresponding Hartree potentials, to define the respective collective subspaces in which the interactions are expanded.
