  2. 2. Prospects for Evidence-Based L2 Chinese Teaching Practice in Sweden: A Progression Sequence Analysis of Grammatical Items in Chinese Textbooks

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Utbildningsvetenskap; Lunds universitet/Humanistiska och teologiska fakulteterna

    Author : Stella Zoé Louise Lundqvist; [2020]
    Keywords : Teaching Chinese as a Second Language TCSL TCFL ; Swedish Education; Textbook Analysis; Acquisition Order; Processability Theory; Learnability; Second Language Acquisition L2A SLA ; Languages and Literatures;

    Abstract : This study was motivated by the current vulnerable status of Chinese taught as a second language in Swedish gymnasium education, calling for further knowledge on how theories on second language (L2) acquisition can benefit instruction on L2 Chinese. Since language textbooks often constitute the curriculum in Swedish classrooms, two Chinese textbooks were targeted for analysis in terms of the sequencing of grammatical content in relation to learner readiness. 3. 3. Morphosyntactic competence of adult learners of English in Sweden : The impact of L2 exposure outside school and highest completed education on morphosyntactic development

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för språk (SPR)

    Author : Attila Czaholi; [2019]
    Keywords : Exposure to English outside school; Grundvux learners; highest completed education; morphosyntactic development; Processability theory;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate the morphosyntactic development of Grundvux learners (adult learners who study school subjects at elementary school levels in Sweden) of English with the aid of Processability theory, or PT, and to investigate the potential influence of exposure to English outside school and the participants' highest completed formal education on the participants' morphosyntactic levels. The participants of this study were Grundvux learners who studied English either on National Course 2, 3, or 4. READ MORE

  4. 4. The hierarchy of Chinese grammar: A cross-sectional study of L2 Chinese within Processability Theory

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Masterprogram: Språk och språkvetenskap

    Keywords : PT; Processability Theory; Second Language Acquisition; SLA; Chinese; Mandarin; Swedish; grammar; Languages and Literatures;

    Abstract : Processability Theory (PT) is a well-established theoretical framework within the field of Second Language Acquisition, which describes the development of acquiring language as a process of acquiring procedural skills. 5. 5. Can elicited imitation be used to measure grammatical development : a cross-sectional study of L2 Swedish within the framework of the Processability Theory

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Allmän språkvetenskap

    Author : Karin Rasmusson; [2016]
    Keywords : second language acquisition; free production; processability theory; elicited imitation test; Swedish as a second language; Languages and Literatures;

    Abstract : Abstract The aim of the thesis was to examine whether or not the elicited imitation test can be used as a valid tool for measuring developmental sequences of grammatical structures in the production of L2 Swedish derived from the Processability Theory (PT, Pienemann, 1998). The thesis aimed to answer the following questions: Will the participants follow the predicted implicational pattern of the developmental stages of PT in both the elicited data and the free production data? If they do not, are there any differences between the participants’ results of the elicited data and the free production data? Are there any participants who can process a later stage without a prerequisite stage in the two sets of data? The elicited data was collected by recording nine L2-learners of Swedish imitating 29 model sentences pre-recorded by an L1-speaker of Swedish. READ MORE
