  1. 1. Understanding Rt using two-particle correlations by simulating proton-proton collisions in a Monte-Carlo model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Johan Leygonie; [2021]
    Keywords : QGP; Quark-Gluon-Plasma; Rt; Particle Physics; Proton-proton Collisions; Pythia; Monte-Carlo Model; Bachelor s Thesis; Heavy-ion Collisions; ALICE; CERN; Relative Transverse Activity; Jets; Two-Particles Correlations; Quantum Physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The observable Rt is investigated in the Monte Carlo Model Pythia in order to better understand results from experimental data obtained in the ALICE detector at CERN. The purpose is to reproduce the experiment in a simulation and use the features proposed by Pythia to dig into the unexpected outcomes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigating RT using two-particle angular correlations in proton-proton collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Dilan Chroscik; [2020]
    Keywords : particle physics; proton-proton collisions; two-particle angular correlations; underlying event; relative transverse activity; ALICE; LHC; collective flow; long range correlations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The observable, RT , is investigated using two-dimensional (∆η, ∆φ) angular correlations, where ∆η and ∆φ are the differences in pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle respectively, between the trigger and associated tracks. The analysed data consists of reconstructed tracks, from proton-proton collisions at collision energy ps = 13 TeV, taken from the ALICE detector at the LHC. READ MORE

  3. 3. Principal Component Analyses of Final States in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions using PYTHIA/Angantyr

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik

    Author : Nicoline Krogh Hemme; [2020]
    Keywords : Relativistic Nuclear Collisions; Heavy-ion Collisions; Pythia; Angantyr; String Shoving; Colour Reconnection; Principal Component Analysis; Anisotropic Flow; Elliptic Flow; Event-by-event Fluctuations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We develop a program to perform a principal component analysis of flow fluctuations using simulations of nuclear collisions produced by the PYTHIA/Angantyr event generator. We consider both p+p and p+Pb collision events and study the leading and subleading modes of the second flow harmonic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of Possible QGP Estimators in proton-proton Collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Anna Önnerstad; [2019]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis presents studies of three different Quark-Gluon Plasma estimators in proton-proton collisions using what is currently believed to be quark-gluon plasma observables; radial flow, elliptic flow and strangeness enhancement. The three tested estimators were Transverse Spherocity, an altered version of Transverse Spherocity where all p_T was put to one, and a newly developed estimator called Mid-Forward. READ MORE

  5. 5. Xi Production in pp Collisions at Different Multiplicity and Spherocity

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikelfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Martin Angelsmark; [2019]
    Keywords : Particle Physics Quark Gluon Plasma ALICE LHC CERN Xi Baryon Transverse Spherocity Multiplicity; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The protons and neutrons that make up the atoms in our Universe are part of a larger group of particles called hadrons. Hadrons have an inner structure consisting of the elementary particles called quarks. The interaction of the quarks is described by the quantum field theory quantum chromodynamics. READ MORE
