  1. 1. Vegetation phenology derived using the plant phenology index and the normalized difference vegetation index for the Balkan peninsula, south-eastern Europe

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Aleksandra Ivanova; [2019]
    Keywords : physical geography; ecosystem analysis; phenology; vegetation; climate change; remote sensing; plant phenology index; PPI; timesat; Balkan peninsula; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This study analyses the performance of the satellite derived Plant Phenology Index (PPI) against the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for estimating start of season (SOS) and end of season (EOS) of vegetation growth in part of the Balkan Peninsula, Southeastern Europe (2000 – 2016). Results revealed that PPI and NDVI differ considerably; SOS and EOS may diverge by more than one month between the two indices. READ MORE

  2. 2. Remote sensing methods for detecting deforestation and illegal logging in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Ana Gebert; [2019]
    Keywords : Bosnia and Herzegovina BiH ; Canton Sarajevo; illegal logging; remote sensing; deforestation; Global Forest Change GFC ; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : With the rapid and alarming rate at which forests are disappearing around the world, it is of great importance to effectively estimate loss of forest cover due to different causes. Among those causes illegal logging is a particularly enigmatic and dangerous one made well-known by the destruction of the tropical rainforests of South America and Southeast Asia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Survival Analysis Using Time-Frequency Analysis of Heart Rate Variability During Exercise

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik

    Author : Carl Sjögren; [2019]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Heart rate variability as an indicator of increased morbidity has been established in previous studies. It is defined by different frequency bands, corresponding to different biological mechanisms. This thesis aims to study heart rate variability indices in the time-frequency domain through extraction from the UK Biobank dataset. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of Wildfire Burn on Permafrost Landcover and Catchment Hydrology in Manitoba, Canada

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Andreas Andersson; [2019]
    Keywords : wildfire; permafrost; catchment hydrology;

    Abstract : Permafrost is a strongly controlling factor on Arctic hydrology due to its effect on ground permeability, and thus surface and ground water flow paths. As wildfires are increasing in occurrence and magnitude in permafrost regions, they may alter the hydrological regime via permafrost thaw and degradation that increases ground permeability. 5. 5. Counterparty Credit Exposures for Interest Rate Derivatives using Stochastic Grid Bundling Method and Change of Measure

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Johan Gustavsson; [2017]
    Keywords : OTC; Counterparty credit risk; HW1F; Market price of risk; CVA; Potential Future Exposure; Expected Exposure; Bermudan swaption; Stochastic Grid Bundling Method; SGBM.; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : The notional amounts outstanding of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives had grown exponentially for almost two decades and its rapid growth were mainly due the increase in OTC interest rate derivatives. As of december 2014, the total notional amounts outstanding in the global OTC market was 630 trillions USD and the OTC interest rate derivatives represents about 80% of the market. READ MORE
