  1. 1. Computational Analysis of Spray Deflector Designs

    University essay from KTH/Lättkonstruktioner, marina system, flyg- och rymdteknik, rörelsemekanik

    Author : Osman Gyokhan Ali; [2023]
    Keywords : Planing Hulls; Spray Deflector; Hull Modification; Computational fluid dynamics CFD ; resistance; trim angle; heave; CD-adapco Star CCM ; Numerical Ventilation; Phase Replacement; Modified HRIC Scheme; Volume Fraction Source Term; Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes RANS ; Volume of Fluid VOF ; SST K-Omega Turbulence Modelling; Höghastighetshantverk; modelldesign; spraydeflektor;

    Abstract : Planing hull is a common hull design concept which decreases the resistance while speed is increasing for a specific speed range. It is also suitable for hull modifications to achieve higher efficiency. Spray deflector is a promising hull modification which offers extra resistance decreasing and less vertical acceleration for planing hulls. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design of compact automotive heat exchanger, analysing the effects of RANS models and utilising Additive Manufacturing

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Nikhil Srikkanth; Bartosz Brzuchalski; [2022]
    Keywords : Turbulence; Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes; KTH Formula Student; metal additive manufacturing; CFD; turbulent kinetic energy; boundary layer;

    Abstract : The analytical modelling of complex turbulent airflow remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of physics, but in this paper two widely used Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes models (k-$\epsilon$ and k-$\omega$ SST) are compared while designing a heat exchanger for the KTH Formula Student electric race car. CAD software was used to design lattices for the heat exchanger core and theorise about how to increase heat transfer while also taking into account the utilisation of metal additive manufacturing. 3. 3. LES Modelling of Turbulent Flow Through an Array of Cylinders Using OpenFOAM

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Hanna Isaksson; [2019]
    Keywords : Porous media; OpenFOAM; premeability; LES; packed cylinders; turbulence;

    Abstract : The objective for this master thesis project was to perform simulations for high and low Reynolds number for a porousmedia modelled as quadratic packed cylinders. The simulations were to be performed by using the open source codeOpenFOAM and the turbulence should be modelled by the LES turbulence model in order to resolve details about theturbulence. 4. 4. Modelling coaxial jets relevat to turbofan jet engines

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Asuka Gabrielle Pietroniro; [2016]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Simulations of subsonic turbulent coaxial hot jets were conducted on two types ofunstructured grids within the framework of STAR-CCM+. The study case is based on atypical airliner turbofan engine model with a core nozzle and a fan nozzle, having a bypassratio of five. READ MORE
