  1. 1. Using Sentinel-2 Satellite Images to Estimate Traits of Forage Grasslands

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Agricultural Research for Northern Sweden

    Author : Niklas Zeiner; [2021]
    Keywords : Remote sensing; Forage grasslands; Sentinel-2; Dry matter yield; Canopy average height; Total leaf chlorophyll content; Partial least squares; Support vector machines;

    Abstract : In this project, regression models based on data from field measurements and spectral information extracted from satellite imagery were used to estimate traits of forage grasslands; dry matter yield, canopy average height and total leaf chlorophyll. Four fields at SLUs Röbäcksdalen field station were sampled on 22 occasions and a total of 198 samples, including measurement of the highest plant, canopy height, leaf chlorophyll content, canopy spectral reflectance and biomass were collected. 2. 2. Effects of the 2018 drought on mire productivity in Skogaryd - Evaluation of ground sensors, satellite data and meteorological data

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Ines Júlio Alfredo; [2021]
    Keywords : Sentinel 2; Vegetation Indices; Ground Sensors; Drought and Mire; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The drought is a complex meteorological phenomenon associated with low precipitation and low water saturation in atmosphere, soils and plants and can has a great effect on aboveground biomass and change the structure and function of the ecosystems. The droughts also are known to reduce the primary and secondary productivity of vegetation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cropland and tree cover mapping using Sentinel-2 data in an agroforestry landscape, Burkina Faso

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Ntandokazi Masimula; [2020-06-29]
    Keywords : Sentinel-2; Cropland mask; Tree cover estimation; Burkina Faso; Agroforestry; Random Forest;

    Abstract : Sentinel-2, with high spatial resolution bands and increased number of spectral channels,has provided increased capabilities for vegetation mapping. Cropland masks withinheterogeneous areas such as the Sudano-Sahel zone have become useful for monitoringlandscapes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling gross primary production in semi-arid regions: effects on carbon uptake of intensive agriculture in southern Kenya

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Malin Ahlbäck; [2020]
    Keywords : Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; GPP; Africa; Kenya; Land cover changes; Cropland; Remote sensing; Sentinel-2; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Background and aim: Gross primary production (GPP) is the largest global carbon (C) flux and an important component for counteracting anthropogenic CO2 emissions, understanding vegetation dynamics, and sustaining universal human standards. Africa plays a prominent role in the global C cycle, though our understanding of GPP dynamics is largely hampered by a paucity of ground-based observations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Remote sensing-based land cover classification and change detection using Sentinel-2 data and Random Forest : A case study of Rusinga Island, Kenya

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Tema Miljöförändring

    Author : Malena Hesping; [2020]
    Keywords : Land cover classification; post-classification change detection; Random Forest; remote sensing; Sentinel-2;

    Abstract : Healthy forests and soils are crucial for the very existence of mankind as they provide food, clean water and air, shade and protection against floods and storms. With their photosynthetic carbon storage ability, they mitigate climate change and fertilise and stabilise soils. READ MORE
