  1. 1. The black hole information paradox and holography

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Ona Mola Bertran; [2023]
    Keywords : information paradox; semiclassical physics; holography; AdS CFT correspondence; island formula; entanglement entropy;

    Abstract : Hawking theorized in 1974 that black holes emit particles as a quantum effect. It follows from this fact that a black hole that emits particles while absorbing none ends up evaporating. The process of black hole evaporation studied from semiclassical gravity violates quantum mechanics leading to serious problems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cosmological Horizons and the Unruh Effect

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Niklas Engelhardt Önne; [2023]
    Keywords : Unruh effect; quantum scalar fields; Bogoliubov transformations; accelerated observers; Minkowski spacetime; cosmological horizons; Rindler observers; special relativity; QFT; Unruh-effekten; skalära kvantfält; Bogoliubov-transformationer; accelererande referenssystem; Minkowski rumtid; kosmologiska horisonter; Rindlerobservatörer; speciell relativitetsteori; QFT;

    Abstract : The black hole information paradox, which states that the evaporation of black holes due to Hawking radiation results in a violation of the conservation of quantum information, is arguably one of the most fundamental problems in all of modern physics. Through the equivalence principle, the essence of the problem can be understood and studied in the context of much simpler flat spacetime (described by the theory of special relativity); in this context the Hawking radiation takes the form of the so-called Unruh effect, a thermal effect in the vacuum of a Minkowski quantum field theory that can be measured by accelerated observers. 3. 3. Spatiotemporal Consciousness in Special Relativity

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för idé- och samhällsstudier

    Author : Gustaf Malmberg; [2023]
    Keywords : Consciousness; Phenomenology; Special Relativity; Relativistic Spacetime; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : The experience of time passing is a fundamental part of the human experience, but what is the relationship between conscious experiences in time and the relativistic nature of space and time? It is natural to think that our phenomenal experiences are realised by neuralevents in our brains. And it seems plausible that the order of these neural events makes a difference to our phenomenology. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pure Yang-Mills amplitudes in 5 Dimensions : A study of vector boson amplitudes at 4 and 5 points

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Athanasios Voutouras; [2023]
    Keywords : Yang-Mills; Scattering; Amplitudes; QFT;

    Abstract : In this text we explore the case of pure Yang-Mills amplitudes in 5 spacetime dimensions for vector particles. Extending current toolsets such as the Spinor-Helicity formalism in 5D would be beneficial to the study of the various cases of super Yang-Mills and supergravity. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the emergent relative distancebetween quantum systems

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Sebastian Jovancic; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In an emergent spacetime framework where relative distances between quantum systemsare determined by the mutual information between the systems, an entangled pairmust be shown to have a non-zero distance even though its mutual information is maximalby virtue of being maximally entangled. This report shows that in fact an entangledpair is only maximally entangled in some degrees of freedom such as spin, and when oneintroduces other quantum degrees of freedom the mutual information is no longer maximaland so a non-zero distance can be recovered.
