  1. 1. Keep Calm and Carry On: An empirical study of how firms can build resilience towards supply chain disruptions in a globalised world

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för finansiell ekonomi

    Author : Hedda Cederlund; Cecilia Lindström; [2023]
    Keywords : Supply chain disruptions; Supply chains; Resilience; Financial flexibility; Covid-19;

    Abstract : Supply chains are navigating through an evolving environment where an increasing number of disruptions occur, in magnitudes reinforced by globalisation. Covid-19 revealed the vulnerability inherent in the interconnected global supply chain networks and unveiled the unpreparedness of firms to effectively manage the disruption's adverse effects. 2. 2. Spectral sequences for composite functors

    University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)

    Author : Adam Erlandsson; [2022]
    Keywords : Algebraic topology; homological algebra; spectral sequences; fibrations; derived functors; derived categories; Algebraisk topologi; homologisk algebra; spektralsekvenser; fibreringar; deriverade funktorer; deriverade kategorier;

    Abstract : Spectral sequences were developed during the mid-twentieth century as a way of computing (co)homology, and have wide uses in both algebraic topology and algebraic geometry.  Grothendieck introduced in his Tôhoku paper the Grothendieck spectral sequence, which given left exact functors $F$ and $G$ between abelian categories, uses the right-derived functors of $F$ and $G$ as initial data and converges to the right-derived functors of the composition $G\circ F. 3. 3. The Economic Consequences of a Triple Disaster: A Comparative Case Study of the Great East Japan Earthquake

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomi

    Author : Elin Yang Liu; [2021]
    Keywords : Natural disaster; Synthetic control method; Economic impact; Japan; Tohoku;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the economic effects of natural disasters by studying the particular case of Tohoku earthquake and tsunami 2011 in Japan. Specifically, the statistical methodology of synthetic controls is used to estimate the change in GDP per capita caused by this incident. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical Study on Seepage-induced Failure of Caisson Type Breakwaters Using a Stabilized ISPH

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära

    Author : Tetsuro Goda; [2017]
    Keywords : Tsunami; Breakwater; Particle method; SPH; Seepage flow; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This paper presents a stabilized incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (ISPH) method to simultaneously simulate surface and seepage flow. The Navier-Stokes type equation, which manipulates the linear and nonlinear resistance effects caused from porous materials, are employed for tracking fluid motions in porous medium. READ MORE

  5. 5. Communication challenges in transboundary crisis situations

    University essay from IT-universitetet i Göteborg/Tillämpad informationsteknologi

    Author : Philip Svensson; [2012-11-22]
    Keywords : crisis; crisis communication; crisis management; communication; disaster; multicultural crisis; transboundary crisis;

    Abstract : In recent years, the world has seen a series of catastrophes such as the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the September 11 attacks in 2001, the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the earthquake disaster in Haiti in 2010, and most recently the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Common to all of these events is that they present numerous challenges for crisis management actors in terms of coordinating and communicating across geographical, cultural and political borders.
