  1. 1. Legacy effects of temperature alterations on microbial resistance and resilience to drying and rewetting

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Franklin Lee Harris; [2023]
    Keywords : microbial ecology; soil; carbon dynamics; high latitudes; climate change; moisture stress; isotopes; respiration; trait based ecology; soil microbes; Environmental Changes in High Latitudes EnCHIL ; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : With warming in soils due to climate change, a series of secondary factors arise, which have multifaceted effects on soil microbial communities. Of these, alterations to soil moisture are among the most crucial to understanding how microbial functions will change in the face of climate change. READ MORE

  2. 2. Building High-performing Web Rendering of Large Data Sets

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : William Burwall; [2023]
    Keywords : Plot; Trajectory plot; Downsampling; Data set; Interactive visualization; Hardware acceleration; Web rendering; WebGL; D3FC; Apache Arrow;

    Abstract : Interactive visualization is an essential tool for data analysis. Cloud-based data analysis software must handle growing data sets without relying on powerful end-user hardware. This thesis explores and tests various methods to speed up primarily time series plots of large data sets on the web for the biotechnology research company Sartorius. READ MORE

  3. 3. FLOWERING TIME DEPENDENCE ON MICROCLIMATE ACROSS AN ELEVATIONAL GRADIENT IN ARCTIC PLANT COMMUNITIES

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Instiutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Maria Pavolotskaia; [2022-07-06]
    Keywords : The Arctic; flowering time; flowering phenology; elevation; elevational gradient; temperature; snowmelt; snow cover; microclimate.;

    Abstract : The Arctic is the fastest-warming region on Earth. Arctic plant communities are highly sensitive to temperature change; temperature-dependent advancement of flowering dates has already been observed in the Arctic. Flowering time is critical for reproductive success. READ MORE

  4. 4. Automatic classification of cardiovascular age of healthy people by dynamical patterns of the heart rhythm

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Statistik och maskininlärning

    Author : priya kurian pullolickal; [2022]
    Keywords : Electrocardiogram ECG measures the electrical impulses of the heart. The time inter- val between two successive R peaks measured in millisecond using an ECG is called as an RR-interval. The distribution of the RR-intervals as well as classification of cardiovascu- lar age of healthy people from RR-interval was done in this thesis. For that; the data was preprocessed and time series plots were analyzed from sample dataset. The RR-intervals were then aligned to have the same start time using functions written and then an aver- age RR-interval series for each decade was created. The coefficient of variation was very less for this averaged dataset which concluded that averaging the RR-interval was a good approach. The averaged dataset per age decade as well agreed to the conclusion of the sample data set that the heart rate variability decreases with increasing age. Three clusters of age decade were also visible in the averaged dataset. The kurtosis; skew; mean; me- dian; histograms and Q-Q Plot were calculated for the sample as well as averaged dataset to find the distribution. The values all concluded that the RR-intervals follow Gaussian distribution or mixture of Gaussian distribution. The Poincaré plots showed that the dis- tribution of RR-interval is comet shaped for healthy individuals. The features were ex- tracted from the distribution as well as from the distribution of Discrete Fourier Transform DFT for classifying the age group from RR-intervals. Svitzky-Golay filtering was done to smooth the signal before taking the features from DFT. Random Forest and Support Vector Machine was the machine learning algorithms used to classify the age decade. Later the results were compared using a dataset from physionet that had RR-intervals of individuals suffering from myocardial infraction. The age classification using Random Forest and Sup- port Vector Machine concluded that the Gdańsk dataset using Random Forest Algorithm and three classes gave the highest test accuracy of 59% for the dataset.;

  5. 5. Bearing condition monitoring : An investigation on the possibility of monitoring aging of the lubricating grease by means of acoustic emission and temperature.

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Dilesh Raj Shrestha; [2021]
    Keywords : Acoustic Emission; Fourier Transform; Infrared Spectroscopy; Condition Monitoring; Total Acidic Number; Fast Fourier Transform; Scanning Electron Microscopy; Rheology; Bleed Oil; Grease degradation;

    Abstract : Grease is among the most widely used lubricants in rolling element bearings. Proper understanding of the effect of lubrication due to grease aging can provide a significant increase in the life of the engineering systems. However, at present, there is no sufficient understanding of the grease aging effect in rolling elements bearing. READ MORE
