  1. 1. Modelling study of Ti64 and Ti6242 as a first approach to understand their additive manufacturing behaviors

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Clara De Monte; [2023]
    Keywords : Titanium alloy; CALPHAD; Additive manufacturing;

    Abstract : Aerospace and aeronautics industries push forward the research to improve constantly the quality, safety, and cost of flights. The main ways of improving products are to create lighter and better components, under a highly controlled processing from the research and development to the production at a big scale. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigations of Tool Wear Mechanisms in the Turning of Conventional, Calcium Treated and Ultraclean Steels

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Milou Göransson; [2023]
    Keywords : Clean steel; Ultraclean steel; Longitudinal turning; Cemented carbide cutting tool; Chemical vapor deposition coating; Machinability; Tool wear; Non-metallic inclusions; Rent stål; Ultrarent stål; Längdsvarvning; Hårdmetall skärverktyg; Kemisk ångdeponering beläggning; Bearbetningsbarhet; Verktygsslitage; Icke-metalliska inneslutningar.;

    Abstract : Application of clean and ultraclean steels have shown to provide favourable mechanical properties for bearings and transmission components, specifically regarding fatigue performance, compared to conventional steel grades. Clean steels are characterized by containing a very low level of non-metallic inclusions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Study of Porosity in Uncoated Cemented Carbide Tools During Titanium Alloy Machining.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Industriell Produktion

    Author : Cornelis Botermans; [2023]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : During high speed machining of titanium alloys both the tool and workpiece material diffuse into one another affecting the surface integrity of the cutting tool edge and leading to fracture. One proposed mechanism by which the tool integrity is compromised results from the possible formation of porosity in to subsurface of the tool substrate close to the tool cutting edge. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental Study and Modelling of Heat Transfer in Milling of Titanium Alloys

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Industriell Produktion

    Author : Belén Cámara Herrero; [2022]
    Keywords : Titanium alloys; heat transfer; milling; modelling; thermal simulation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The purpose of this project is studying heat transfer to indexable cutting tools during milling of a selection of titanium alloys, relevant to the industry. To achieve this goal, both experimental and theoretical models were contemplated to formulate the current thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Performance and Wear Behaviour of Coated and Uncoated Cemented Carbide Tools during Milling of Titanium Alloys

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Industriell Produktion

    Author : Juan Manuel Bello Bermejo; [2022]
    Keywords : Titanium alloys; milling; wear mechanisms; wear behaviour; cutting tool performance.; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Purpose – The purpose of this project is to study the performance of uncoated versus coated cemented carbide tools when performing milling operations in heat treated titanium alloys, with the goal of establishing a base line of knowledge and methodology linked to these difficult-to-machine materials relevant for the metal cutting industry. Design/methodology/approach – The work that is carried out in this project comprise both literature review, that is presented as the state of the art as the necessary theoretical background to understand what is done; and experiments, that were designed and executed at Seco Tools in Fagersta in order to achieve the primary goal, testing and comparing different scenarios where cutting parameters played a key role.
