  1. 1. Drought resistance of Ectomycorrhizal fungi in the Suillus genus

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Patricia Salén; [2024]
    Keywords : Ectomycorrhiza; drought; Suillus;

    Abstract : Rising instances of drought are causing more tree seedling fatalities post-nursery outplanting. In the face of climate change, fostering resilient forestry practices is imperative for preserving the health and functionality of our forests. READ MORE

  2. 2. Explaining Gender-Based Political Funding: A quantitative cross-national analysis of the impact of electoral, political, and cultural factors on political funding

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Author : Saba Muneer; [2024]
    Keywords : gender targeted public funding; gender quotas; cross national; gender and politics; political; electoral; cultural; regression analysis;

    Abstract : Despite global progress on gender equality, women continue to be underrepresented in politics. One widely debated policy measure aimed at tackling this issue is gendered public funding – which has been adopted in more than 30 countries worldwide yet remains understudied in the literature on gender and politics. 3. 3. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  4. 4. Juice/JDC ion measurement perturbations caused by spacecraft charging in the solar wind and Earth’s magnetosheath

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Derek van Winden; [2024]
    Keywords : Juice; Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer; JDC; Jovian plasma Dynamics and Composition analyzer; Particle Environment Package; PEP; Jupiter; Ganymede; Callisto; Europa; solar wind; magnetosheath; spacecraft charging; Spacecraft Plasma Interaction Software; SPIS; charging; plasma; measurement perturbations; perturbation; distortion; particle detector; Institutet för Rymdfysik; IRF; Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies; DIAS; European Space Agency; ESA;

    Abstract :  In July 2031, a new chapter in the exploration of the Jovian system will begin with the arrival of the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice) at Jupiter. Launched on April 14 2024 as part of ESA’s Cosmic Vision programme, the mission aims to study Jupiter and its icy Galilean moons Callisto, Europa, and Ganymede. READ MORE

  5. 5. A temporal Hawkes process model for shooting occurrences in Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Statistiska institutionen

    Author : Sara Kopelman; [2024]
    Keywords : Point processes; stochastic processes; statistics; conditional intensity; crime; shootings; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : The Hawkes process, also referred to as a self-exciting point process, is a class of point processes where the intensity is conditioned on previous events. More specifically, an event occurrence excites the process, temporarily increasing the probability of more events occurring. READ MORE
