  2. 7. The apparent population crash in heath-hares Lepus timidus sylvaticus of southern Sweden : do complex ecological processes leave detectable fingerprints in long-term hunting bag records?

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Author : Alexander Winiger; [2014]
    Keywords : Lepus spp; Hunting bag time series; hyperpredation; competitive exclusion; Fennoscandia;

    Abstract : Scientific and circumstantial evidence of recent decades indicate decreasing population trends in the native mountain hares Lepus timidus of Fennoscandia (Finland, Sweden, Norway). It has been suggested that climate warming, habitat degradation, pathogens, predation and interspecific competition are potential candidates to drive this supposed decline. READ MORE

  3. 8. Echinococcus multilocularis in wild boar : aiming at an alternative surveillance method

  4. 9. Predator community and prey dynamics : a case study of roe deer and re-colonizing fox, lynx and wolf

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Author : Ugo Arbieu; [2012]
    Keywords : Canis lupus; Capreolus capreolus; cumulative incidence function; competing risks; Cox proportional hazards; Lynx lynx; population dynamics; survival analysis; Vulpes vulpes;

    Abstract : The role of predation is a central question in ecology and population dynamics. In South-central Sweden, the predator community has gone through drastic changes over the last fifty years with the progressive recovery of three large predators: the fox (Vulpes vulpes), recovering after a sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) outbreak, the lynx (Lynx lynx) and the wolf (Canis lupus), the two latter re-colonizing the region after a massive population persecution at the beginning of the 20th century. 5. 10. Neonate mortality in fallow deer (Dama dama) in relation to bed-site selection and habitat use

    Keywords : anti-predatory behavior; bed-site; dama dama; fallow deer; habitat selection; neonate mortality; predation; red fox;

    Abstract : The level of neonate mortality in a free ranging fallow deer (Dama dama) population at the Koberg estate in south western Sweden was investigated using radio-tracking techniques. During this study a total of 36 fawns (17 ♂, 19 ♀) were captured and marked with vhf or gps radio collars; 12 fawns in 2008 and 24 fawns in 2009. READ MORE
