  1. 6. Validation of the Westinghouse BWR nodal core simulator POLCA8 against Serpent2 reference results

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Mathilde Gaillard; [2021]
    Keywords : Nodal Core Analysis; Monte Carlo Methods; CBH Effects; Nodal kärnanalys; Monte Carlo-metoder; CBH-effekter;

    Abstract : When a new nodal core simulator is developed, like all other simulators, it must go through an extensive verification and validation effort where, in the first stage, it will be tested against appropriate reference tools in various theoretical benchmark problems. The series of tests consist of comparing several geometries, from the simplest to the most complex, by simulating them with the nodal core simulator developed and with some higher order solver representing the reference solution, in this case on the Serpent2 Monte Carlo transport code. 2. 7. Improved methodology for postulated fuel handling accident

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för byggvetenskaper; Lunds universitet/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Max Fagerberg; [2020]
    Keywords : ANSYS LS-DYNA; FEM; nuclear fuel; solid mechanics; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This report presents a suggestion of an improved method for evaluation of a fuel handling accidents. Using a 3D FE-model and ANSYS LS-DYNA EXT the structural analysis is carried out. Importing geometry from SpaceClaim and simplifying it creates the geometry used in this analysis. READ MORE

  3. 8. Joint Calibration of a Cladding Oxidation and a Hydrogen Pick-up Model for Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB

    University essay from

    Author : Joakim Nyman; [2020]
    Keywords : Marcov Chain Monte Carlo; Surrogate Model; Gaussian Process; Marginal Likelihood Optimisation; The Margin Method; Dakota; Transuranus; Calibration; Machine Learning; Software Coupling;

    Abstract : Knowledge regarding a nuclear power plants potential and limitations is of utmost importance when working in the nuclear field. One way to extend the knowledge is using fuel performance codes that to its best ability mimics the real-world phenomena. READ MORE

  4. 9. Application of sub-channel thermal-hydraulic analysis to core calculations with POLCA8 and VIPRE-W

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Larisa Castellanos Alvarez; [2019]
    Keywords : nuclear physics; westinghouse; POLCA; Vipre; BWR;

    Abstract : This report investigates the steps of a one-way coupling between two simulation codes developed by Wesinghouse Electric Sweden AB. The Westinghouse POLCA8 is a three dimensional steady-state diffusion theory code used for simulating the neutronic, thermal and hydraulic behavior of a reactor core. 5. 10. Compaction of Lattice Data : Improved Efficiency in Nuclear Core Calculation

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Hanna Lundgren; [2017]
    Keywords : nuclear physics; nuclear core calculation; PHOENIX; POLCA; Westinghouse; cross sections;

    Abstract : Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB’s three-dimensional reactor core simulation program POLCA uses a large number of tables containing various fuel dependent data, such as cross sections, pin power maps with power distribution etc. POLCA uses quadratic and linear interpolation to extract the values needed for the simulation.
