  1. 1. Ecological risk assessment of pesticide use in rice farming in the Mekong Delta , Vietnam

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Author : Bubaraye Ohiosimuan Dirikumo; [2023]
    Keywords : Pesticides; Ecological Risk Assessment ERA ; rice farming; Mekong Delta; PRIMET Model; Exposure Toxicity Ratio ETR ; species sensitivity distribution SSD ; predicted environmental concentrations PECs ;

    Abstract : Pesticide use in rice farming is a common practice in the Mekong Delta and poses ecological risks to aquatic organisms, the environment, and human health. This study focused on the ecological risk assessment of pesticide use in rice farming using the PRIMET model as a decision support tool to evaluate the risks of pesticide exposure, ecotoxicity, and risk characterization, as well as employing the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) assessment model to calculate the potentially affected fraction (PAF) of species based on the computed predicted environmental concentrations (PECs) from PRIMET. 2. 2. Population dynamics of the spruce bark beetle Ips typographus in forest conservation areas and the interaction with biodiversity and natural enemies

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Author : Evelina Andersson; [2023]
    Keywords : spruce bark beetle; population dynamics; conservation areas; biodiversity; natural enemies; species richness; managed forests; woodland key-habitats; nature reserves;

    Abstract : Biodiversity is rapidly decreasing and in need of more conservation efforts. However, the tree-killing European spruce bark beetle, Ips typographus (L.), has made forest conservation controversial by affecting conservation areas and possibly adjoining managed forests, yet is still a keystone species leaving decaying wood promoting biodiversity. 3. 3. Kinematic Enrolment in Four Ordovician Trilobites Using Three-Dimensional Modelling

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Paleobiologi

    Author : Alejandro Corrales Garcia; [2023]
    Keywords : 3D modelling; Blender; Dysplanus centrotus; enrolment kinematics; Gyrometopus lineatus; Illaenus sarsi; Ordovician; trilobites; Trilobiter; Enrollering; 3D-modellering; Blender; Modelos 3D; Blender; cinematica; enrollamiento; Ordovicico; trilobites;

    Abstract : Trilobites were a successful group of marine arthropods that thrived for much of the Palaeozoic Era. Akey innovation of trilobites involved the capacity to enrol their biomineralized exoskeletons for protection; a trait that appeared early in their evolutionary history during the Cambrian Period. 4. 4. The evolutionary origins of consciousness

    University essay from Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för biovetenskap

    Author : Azadeh Karamali; [2023]
    Keywords : Phenomenal consciousness; evolutionary origin; animal consciousness; sentience;

    Abstract : Some unanswered questions about consciousness as a biological phenomenon lie in its evolutionary origin and distribution among living organisms. Which animals are conscious and when did consciousness appear in the history of life on earth? The purpose of this thesis is to shed light on these long-standing questions by reviewing the literature on the evolutionary approaches to the fundamental concept of phenomenal consciousness. 5. 5. An ecological investigation of spiders in coastal meadows : in Uppland and Sörmland

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Marie Langbak; [2022]
    Keywords : Spiders; coastal meadows; ecology; diversity; invertebrates;

    Abstract : Coastal meadows are important habitats for many animals, but the habitats are threatened by changes in land use such as abandonment of grazing. On the Swedish East coast, many coastal meadows can be found and they are highly influenced by the brackish marine environment which supports large populations of spiders. READ MORE
