  1. 1. Computational simulations of the Axion Longitudinal Plasma HAloscope

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum

    Author : Tove Klaesson; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The quantum chromodynamics axion is a very light hypothetical particle that may simultaneously solve the dark matter and the strong CP problem. Recently, a new type of haloscope that can detect the resonant conversion of axions to photons was suggested, The Axion Longitudinal Plasma HAloscope (ALPHA). READ MORE

  2. 2. Automated pipeline for processing fluorescence calcium imaging microscopy data and electrophysiological measurements from 3D brain organoids

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Examensarbeten i bioinformatik

    Author : Mattis Knulst; [2021]
    Keywords : Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Motivation: 3D brain organoids are biological models of human brain development from which a rich body of data can be extracted that allows for insights about neuronal dynamics. Several tools, such as fluorescence calcium imaging microscopy and electrophysiological recordings are being used to assess how 3D brain organoid dynamics recapitulate what is known from the human brain. 3. 3. Superradiant axion clouds and their interaction with astrophysical plasma

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Erik Engstedt; [2021]
    Keywords : axions; superradiance; black holes; black hole accretion; astrophysical plasma; axioner; strålningsförstärkning; svarta hål; svart hålansamling; astrofysikalisk plasma;

    Abstract : Axions are one of the best-motivated particles beyond the standard model of particle physics and a promising candidate for dark matter. Through the superradiant instability, axions can extract a significant amount of rotational energy from spinning black holes resulting in dense axion clouds. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dark Photon decay generated by muons in the SHiP experiment

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för materialvetenskap

    Author : Elizaveta Yakovleva; [2020]
    Keywords : dark matter; particle physics; particle accelerators; new physics;

    Abstract : This project has investigated the muon background of the SHiP experiment to determine whether it can boost the experiment sensitivity to visible Dark Photon decay. Using Fermi-Weizsäcker-Williams approximation to muon scattering we found the probability of muons generating massive photons, using Bremsstrahlung and direct lepton pair production as an estimation of the frequency of muon EM-interactions. 5. 5. Cosmological probes of the early universe with Axions & Gravitational Waves

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Nicklas Ramberg; [2019]
    Keywords : axions; early universe; dark matter; gravitational waves; modified cosmology; cosmic strings; axion; tidigt universum; mörk materia; gravitationsvågor; modifierad kosmologi; kosmiska strängar;

    Abstract : This thesis uses theoretical studies, and numerical simulations to provide results of the experimental reach to detect the QCD axion as dark matter in a Non-standard cosmological background. Assuming that the QCD axion constitutes the full CDM abundance of the universe, this thesis elaborates on its potential detection from experimental setups for the mass window of the axion. READ MORE
