  1. 1. High-Temperature Thermal Energy Storage for Innovative Hybrid CSP/PV Plants : A Comprehensive Design Optimization

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Lorenzo Centonze; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : By means of a literature review, critical parameters in the context of thermal energy storage systems, particularly packed bed thermal energy storage systems are identified. The goals of this thesis project are to come up with an optimized design for a PBSTES and to evaluate the thermal performance of alternative storage materials derived from byproducts of industrial processes and natural rocks in order to reduce the environmental impact of the designed system. 2. 2. On intermittency in the turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layer

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Edoardo Foschi; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulence; turbulent boundary layer; intermittency; numerical simulation; DNS; tripping; suction;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a series of direct numerical simulations (DNS) performed in order to understand the discrepancy in the literature regarding turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layers (TASBLs) at low Reynolds numbers. The hypothesis to be tested is that the main reason for higher turbulence intensities observed in experiments compared to DNS is that the latter exhibits intermittent patches of laminar flow, developing both temporally and spatially. 3. 3. Gravity water waves over constant vorticity flows: from laminar flows to touching waves

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); Lunds universitet/Matematikcentrum

    Author : Francisco Gonçalves Jorge Dias de Carvalho; [2023]
    Keywords : Partial differential equations; Water waves; Euler equations; Free boundary problem; Bifurcation theory; Nonlinear functional analysis; Hilbert transform; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : In a recent paper, Hur and Wheeler proved the existence of periodic steady water waves over an infinitely deep, two-dimensional and constant vorticity flow and subject to gravity whose profile overhangs, among which, waves whose surface touches at a point, enclosing a bubble of air. We take this further, proving the existence of a continuous curve of water waves from a laminar flow up to a touching wave for fixed non-zero gravity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Vibrations in a high frequency clt floor panel - Measurement, prediction and evaluation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Byggnadsmekanik; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för byggvetenskaper

    Author : André Wirthig; [2023]
    Keywords : Vibrations; High frequency floors; Sensitive equipment; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : There is an increased need for floors that can accommodate different type of sensitive equipment [1]. Further, it is recommended to design these floors as high frequency floors (HFF) to be able to meet the stringent vibration criteria [1]. READ MORE

  5. 5. Turbulent Boundary Layers Modelling with Deep Operator Networks

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Yu-Cheng Lu; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulent Boundary Layers; Pressure Gradient; Composite Profiles; Deep Operator Networks; Sensitivity Analysis Nyckelord på svenska;

    Abstract : This thesis project aims to advance the modelling of pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers (PG TBLs) and offer new insights into TBLs modelling. Previous analytical studies have explored various mathematical models, but this research introduces an extended unstacked Deep Operator Networks (DeepONets) architecture with double outputs and five branch parameters.
