  1. 1. Study on Decolorization of Reactive-dyed Cotton through Fenton-oxidation as a Pre-treatment for Textile Recycling

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Elise Meurs; [2023]
    Keywords : Fenton-oxidation; advanced oxidation processes; decolorization; textile recycling; cotton; reactive dye;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, the feasibility of Fenton-oxidation for the decolorization of reactive dyed cotton is investigated as a potentially environmental-friendly preparatory treatment for mechanical/chemical recycling. Raw, knitted cotton is dyed with a black and a blue dye, whereafter preliminary tests are performed to investigate the influence of increasing Fenton- solution concentrations and different iron-sources on the efficiency of the discoloration, without carrying out complete optimization of the process-parameters. 2. 2. The effect of fiber structure on chemical modification of cellulosic fibers

    University essay from KTH/Kemiteknik

    Author : Hedvig Palm; Linn Palmér; Emil Törnqvist; Alexander de Potocki; [2023]
    Keywords : Kemi; cellulosa; substitutionsgrad; pappersmassa; katjonisering; EPTMAC; CHPTAC; hållbarhet; blekt sulfatmassa; oblekt sulfatmassa; CTMP; dissolvingmassa; modifierad cellulosa;

    Abstract : För att skapa ett hållbart samhälle måste material av fossilt ursprung ersättas med förnyelsebara och miljövänliga alternativ. Ett sådant alternativ är cellulosa från vedfibrer, som har stor potential att kunna ersätta många fossila material i framtiden. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prediction of Plastic Fragments in Recycled Paper Using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Fidan Alieva; [2023]
    Keywords : Near-infrared spectroscopy; paper packaging; barrier materials; recycling; multivariate data analysis; Nära-infraröd spektroskopi; pappersförpackningar; barriärmaterial; återvinning; multivariat dataanalys;

    Abstract : Sustainability has gained a lot of attention in the field of research. Researchers and consumers both prioritize sustainability and environmental issues over previously dominant materials, such as plastic. Packaging and disposable items that used to be made of plastic have largely been replaced with paper. READ MORE

  4. 4. Urea-Based Treatments of Unretted Hemp Fibres from Residual Streams

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Danilo Esteban Ortiz Sarasty; [2023]
    Keywords : Finola waste; stalks; unretted hemp fibres; degumming; cold urea alkali; microwave-urea;

    Abstract : More sustainable and efficient degumming methods are required to extract finner bast fibres, especially from agro-industrial waste streams such as stalks from hemp for food purposes. For this reason, in this study, two urea-based treatments were evaluated as degumming alternatives for unretted hemp fibres from residual streams, one at cold and alkaline conditions (CUA) and the other in combination with microwave radiation (MWU).
