  1. 1. Investigation of coarse-grid CFD approach for nuclear engineering application

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Michela Casarella; [2023]
    Keywords : Thermal-hydraulics; Nuclear reactor; CFD; Sub-channel; Coarse-grid; Turbulence; Pressure drop; Termisk-hydraulik; kärnreaktor; CFD; underkanal; grovkornigt nät; turbulens; tryckfall;

    Abstract : In this thesis, an innovative coarse grid CFD approach is developed that aims toexploit the capabilities of sub-channel codes and CFD methods while overcoming theirlimitations. In the approach, a very coarse mesh is implemented in the CFD softwareOpenFOAM and a new wall treatment, based on the traditional concept of the wallfunction, is applied to the wall boundary conditions of the domain to take into accountthe low resolution of the grid which does not allow to effectively capture the effect of thesolid walls on the thermo-hydraulics of the flow. 2. 2. Investigating programming language support for fault-tolerance

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Ismail Demirkoparan; [2023]
    Keywords : Dataflow; Fault tolerance; Data streaming; Distributed systems; Checkpointing; Logging; Lineage; Lineage stash; Arc-Lang; Apache Flink;

    Abstract : Dataflow systems have become the norm for developing data-intensive computing applications. These systems provide transparent scalability and fault tolerance. For fault tolerance, many dataflow-system adopt a snapshotting approach which persists the state of an operator once it has received a snapshot marker on all its input channels. READ MORE

  3. 3. On GPU Assisted Polar Decoding : Evaluating the Parallelization of the Successive Cancellation Algorithmusing Graphics Processing Units

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för matematik och datavetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Siri Nordqvist; [2023]
    Keywords : 5G; NR; New Radio; Polar Codes; Channel Decoding; Successive Cancellation; NVIDIA; GPU; CUDA; 5G; New Radio NR ; Polärkoder; Kanalavkodning; Successive Cancellation SC ; NVIDIA; Graphics Processing Unit GPU ; Compute Unified Device Architecture CUDA ;

    Abstract : In telecommunication, messages sent through a wireless medium often experience noise interfering with the signal in a way that corrupts the messages. As the demand for high throughput in the mobile network is increasing, algorithms that can detectand correct these corrupted messages quickly and accurately are of interest to the industry. 4. 4. Validation of a moderate Reynolds number channel in Neko

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Shicheng Dai; [2023]
    Keywords : Neko; CFD; DNS; Turbulence channel flow;

    Abstract : Neko is a portable framework for high-order spectral element flow simulations[1]. Originally from Nek5000, Neko not only inherited its numerical stability and well-performance, but also added the benefits of dynamic memory and support for many current accelerator backends. READ MORE

  5. 5. Origin of blue straggler stars in the Milky Way halo

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Adam Brcek; [2023]
    Keywords : Blue Straggler; Galactic Halo; Spectroscopic Surveys; Binary Star Evolution; Mass Transfer; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Blue straggler stars (BSSs) are exotic stellar objects that appear to be younger than the age of the population they come from suggests. They are observed as the extension of the main sequence stars, beyond the turn-off point. READ MORE
