  1. 1. Deriving characteristics of thin cirrus clouds from observations with the IRF lidar

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för system- och rymdteknik

    Author : Jennifer Edman; [2019]
    Keywords : cirrus; lidar; polar regions; optical thickness; clouds; ice clouds; BSR; backscatter coefficient;

    Abstract : Cirrus clouds play an important role in radiative transfer, and thus have impact on the energy balance of the atmosphere and the climate of the Earth. Furthermore, they occur often and cover large areas globally at any time. Nevertheless, cirrus clouds are poorly studied, especially in the polar regions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Human Influence on Marine Low-Level Clouds

    University essay from Institutionen för geovetenskaper; Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Moa Sporre; [2009]
    Keywords : Low-level clouds; the indirect aerosol effect; satellite retrievals; cloud optical thickness; effective cloud droplet radius; Låga moln; den indirekta aerosol effekten; satellit observationer; molnoptisk tjocklek; effektiv molndroppsradie;

    Abstract : A study of air mass origin’s effect on marine stratus and stratocumulus clouds has been performed on clouds north of Scandinavia between 2000 and 2004. The aerosol number size distribution of the air masses has been obtained from measurements in northern Finland. READ MORE

  3. 3. An Extrapolation Technique of Cloud Characteristics Using Tropical Cloud Regimes

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Salomon Eliasson; [2006]
    Keywords : tropical cloud regime identification; cloud characterisation; satellite remote sensing;

    Abstract : This thesis tests a technique based on objectively identified tropical cloud regimes, in which some cloud characteristics are extrapolated from a single site in the tropics to the entire tropics. Information on cloud top pressure, cloud optical thickness and total cloud cover from 1985-2000 has been derived from the ISCCP D1 data set and has been used to create maps of tropical cloud regimes and maps of total cloud cover over the tropics.
