  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. Why the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (2004-2021) Collapsed? The Path to Peace after the Rise of the Taliban 2.0

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Author : Sultan Ghulam Dastgir Sani; [2023-06-20]
    Keywords : Collapsed State; The Role of Parliamentarians in Peace Processes; Autocratization; Fundamentalism; Armed Politics;

    Abstract : With the fall of Kabul on 15 August 2021, Afghanistan has been back to where it was in 2001, a closed autocracy ruled by the Taliban. However, it was required to search out why the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan 2004-2021 collapsed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Off-State Stress Effects in AlGaN/GaN HEMTs : Investigation of high-voltage off-state stress impact on performance of and its retention in hybrid-drain ohmic gate AlGaN/GaN HEMTs

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Ivan Krsic; [2023]
    Keywords : HEMT; GaN; off-state stress; memory effects; drain leakage current; dynamic RDSon; threshold voltage instabilities; charge redistribution; HEMT; GaN; stress i avslaget tillstånd; minneseffekter; läckströmmen; dynamisk RDSon; instabiliteten hos styrets tröskelspänning; omfördelningen av laddningar;

    Abstract : High electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) realized using AlxGa1-xN/GaN are relatively new technology which is prominent for high-speed and high-power applications. Some of the main problems with this technology were identified as dynamic RDSon, current collapse and threshold voltage instabilities due to the off-state stress. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Collapse of Decoherence : Can Decoherence Theory Solve The Problems of Measurement?

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Materialteori

    Author : Karl Herlin; [2023]
    Keywords : quantum mechanics; quantum physics; philosophy of physics; interpretation of quantum mechanics; measurement problem; problem of preferred basis; problem of non-observability of interference; problem of definite outcomes; environment induced superselection rules; copenhagen interpretation; decoherence; irreducibility of classical concepts;

    Abstract : In this review study, we ask ourselves if decoherence theory can solve the problems of measurement in quantum mechanics. After an introduction to decoherence theory, we present the problem of preferred basis, the problem of non-observability of interference and the problem of definite outcomes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Violence Against the Elite : A Comparative Analysis of two Terminal Classic Mass Graves in Cancuén

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia

    Author : Nayelli Wallbing Kenney; [2023]
    Keywords : Mass graves; violence against elite; collapse; power; socio-politics; socio-economy; osteological analysis; Cancuén; Massgravar; våld mot elit; kollaps; makt; socialpolitik; socioekonomi; osteologisk analys; Cancuén;

    Abstract : In this essay a comparative analysis will be conducted on two mass graves from the terminal classics in the Maya lowlands. This will be done by analysing interpretations of the Cancuén site in Guatemala. Cancuén was a major trading port city in the terminal classics’ southern lowlands. It flourished until its decline in the late 700’s CE. READ MORE
