  1. 1. Searching for signatures of compositeness of the Higgs boson

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Mårten Bertenstam; [2021]
    Keywords : two-Higgs-doublet model; composite Higgs model; composite two-Higgs-doublet model; phase transition; cosmological phase transition; electroweak phase transition; gravitational waves; gravitational wave background; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this master thesis we consider some phenomenological aspects of two-Higgs-doublet models, both elementary and composite ones. The emphasis is on calculating and understanding first order phase transitions in such models, constrained to be in agreement with existing collider data on the Higgs sector. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cosmological implications of a QCD-like composite Higgs model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Hristina Georgieva Hristova; [2021]
    Keywords : composite Higgs; technicolor; gravitational waves; LISA; phase transition; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Some of the shortcomings of the Standard Model of particle physics are the 'unnatural' value of the mass of the Higgs boson and the fact that the model cannot account for the process of baryogenesis - a mechanism which generates the observed asymmetry between matter and anti-matter in the Universe. The former is related to the fundamental scalar nature of the Higgs boson, connected to quadratic divergences in the mass corrections. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploring the Gauge Sector of a Composite Two-Higgs Doublet Model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Adam Warnerbring; [2021]
    Keywords : two-Higgs doublet model; composite Higgs model; composite two-Higgs doublet model; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this bachelor thesis we investigate the gauge sector of a specific composite two-Higgs doublet model, allowing more freedom for the gauge couplings and compositeness scales. From the underlying parameters we generate model realisations with the correct top mass, Higgs mass and electroweak vacuum expectation value, that satisfy theoretical constraints such as unitarity and perturbativity. 4. 4. Reconstruction of challenging signatures characteristic to new physics beyond the Standard Model

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Timmy Lindgren; [2020]
    Keywords : Reconstruction; Identification; photon-jets; ATLAS;

    Abstract : A study of photon-jets and their identification variables computed in the electromagnetic calorimeter of an in-house, ATLAS-like, detector model developed at Uppsala University for full-simulations is presented. The signal, which is based on the Composite Higgs Model, considers the pair production of vector-like top quarks, denoted t', with the successive decays t' to S and a Standard Model top quark and S to two photons, where S is a new pseudo-scalar boson. 5. 5. Exotic Decays of a Vector-liketop Partner at the LHC

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Alexander Skwarcan-Bidakowski; [2019]
    Keywords : Particle physics; Vector-like quarks; VLQ; Composite Higgs model; CHM; Top-partner; pseudo; Nambu-Goldstone boson; pNGB; NGB; ATLAS; LHC; CMS; Significance; Recast; CheckMate; CM; MadGraph; Pythia; Delphes; Detector; Analysis; Hierarchy Problem; Exotic; Decay; QFT; Quantum Field Theory; fermions; bosons; Jets; photons; leptons; 13 TeV; Missing Transverse Energy; momentum; hypothetical; selection criteria; Standard model; Signal; background; event; Higgs; Mechanism; Simulation; Confidence limit;

    Abstract : An evaluation of how sensitive some ATLAS searches for new physics are to a new beyond standard model (BSM) vector-like quark (VLQ) and a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) scalar. This was done by simulating a signal containing these new particles and making a recast of it onto existing verified ATLAS searches for new physics at center-of-mass (CM) energy of 13 TeV (Run 2) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
