  1. 1. Study on Decolorization of Reactive-dyed Cotton through Fenton-oxidation as a Pre-treatment for Textile Recycling

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Elise Meurs; [2023]
    Keywords : Fenton-oxidation; advanced oxidation processes; decolorization; textile recycling; cotton; reactive dye;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, the feasibility of Fenton-oxidation for the decolorization of reactive dyed cotton is investigated as a potentially environmental-friendly preparatory treatment for mechanical/chemical recycling. Raw, knitted cotton is dyed with a black and a blue dye, whereafter preliminary tests are performed to investigate the influence of increasing Fenton- solution concentrations and different iron-sources on the efficiency of the discoloration, without carrying out complete optimization of the process-parameters. 2. 2. A GREENER SOLUTION Investigating the potential use of Green Solvents to remove cellulose nitrate lacquer from silver objects

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvård

    Author : Borén Evelina; [2022-07-05]
    Keywords : Sustainable Conservation; Green Solvents; Cellulose Nitrate; Lacquer; Coating; Silver;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the performance of non-hazardous solvent substitutes, so called “Green Solvents", for the removal of aged and unaged cellulose nitrate lacquer from silver surfaces. Literature research and preliminary tests resulted in four solvents of interest: ethyl acetate, ethyl lactate, propylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate. READ MORE

  3. 3. A novel and feasible material recycling technique for end-of-life textiles as All-Cellulose Composites (ACCs)

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Belinda Johansson; [2021]
    Keywords : all-cellulose composites; end-of-life textiles; denim fabrics; ionic liquid; mechanical properties; sustainability;

    Abstract : Today’s consumption of textiles generates a large volume of textile waste. Therefore, it is needed to find solutions to re-use the textile waste rather recycling fibers into new fibers. Research using pre- and post-consumer textiles in composites is ongoing and an interesting direction. READ MORE
