  1. 1. Variations in depositional environments of the Paleogene Firkanten Formation across Adventdalen, from Operafjellet to Breinosa

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Anna Stella Guðmundsdóttir; [2021-03-18]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The lowermost Paleogene clastic infill of the Central Spitsbergen Tertiary Basin, the coal bearing Firkanten Formation, has been the subject of study for researchers in the past but little focus has been on the northeast edge of the basin until now. Due to the economic potential of the coal seams in the formation, the Norwegian mining company, Store Norske Spitsbergen Grubekompani (SNSG), has for several years conducted core drilling in key locations in basin, and for decades, they have given an access to their core material to researchers. 2. 2. Bogged down: Human preservation and decomposition. Using forensic scoring methods to assess three bog bodies from Denmark, England & Ireland.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Arkeologi

    Author : Jennifer Carey; [2021]
    Keywords : bog bodies; bog body research; human remains; Denmark; England; Ireland; forensics; decomposition; preservation; taphonomy; depositional environment; History and Archaeology;

    Abstract : This work looks at three case studies from bog body research in Denmark, England and Ireland in order to investigate the variation of human decomposition in different depositional environments and the application of forensic methods to the area of bog body research in archaeology. The work attempts to assess the chosen case studies using an established forensic scoring method by Heaton et al (2010) and discusses the possible benefits of using an appropriately adapted scoring method for bog body research. 3. 3. Internal geology and emplacement processes of Kimberlites, Case Study from the Tsabong Kimberlite Field, Botswana

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Geovetenskap och miljöteknik

    Author : Mpho Ndebele; [2020]
    Keywords : Kimberlites; Geology; Emplacement Processes; Botswana;

    Abstract : The Crateceous (85 Ma) MK1 pipe is part of the Tsabong kimberlite cluster located approximately550km south west of Gaborone and geologically found within the Kapvaal Craton. The Tsabongkimberlite field consists of 86 known kimberlites. The MK1 pipe is the largest of this cluster at 140ha,1. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ancient DNA in paleosols, SW Greenland : A tool for retrospective paleoenvironmental studies?

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Kimmo Kumpula; [2018]
    Keywords : Ancient DNA; paleosol; paleoenvironment; Greenland; Arctic;

    Abstract : Ancient DNA (aDNA) is a useful tool for retrospective paleoenvironmental studies. Paleosols formed in Arctic environments constitute a potential archive of aDNA from terrestrial organisms living in past environments, given that the cold and dry climate prevailing at high latitudes favors DNA preservation and hamper post-depositional mobility of deposited fragments. 5. 5. Stratigraphy, sedimentology and geophysical assessment of the early Silurian Halla and Klinteberg formations, Altajme core, Gotland, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Christopher Artursson; [2018]
    Keywords : Gotland; gamma ray; stratigraphy; carbonate sedimentology; drill core; Altajme; Ala-Fjäle; Klinteberg Formation; geophysical survey; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Altajme drillcore was recovered from near Buttle in central Gotland in 2015. The core was drilled in outcrop belt of the late Wenlock (Silurian) Klinteberg Formation as a result from an international drilling campaign between the Department of Geology at Lund University and Iowa University, USA.
