  1. 1. 3D modelling and resistivity measurements for hydrogeological assessments in the northern part of Vombsänkan

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Farid Khorshidian; [2023]
    Keywords : Conceptual 3D modelling; Resistivity; Hydrogeology; Blue Transition; Vombsänkan; Vombverket; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The geology of Vombsänkan is characterized by a complex sequence of Quaternary deposits overlying the Paleozoic sedimentary bedrock. The area is 759 km2 and has recorded several ice advances followed by glacial retreats and ice melting. READ MORE

  2. 2. Loess as an Environmental Proxy for Reconstruction of Palaeoclimate in the High Arctic

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Sara Rognås; [2023]
    Keywords : aeolian transport; loess; grain size analysis; loss on ignition; palaeoclimate; Svalbard; Holocene; vindtransporterat material; lössjord; kornstorlek; loss on ignition; paleoklimat; Svalbard; Holocen;

    Abstract : We are currently speeding towards significant changes in the climate of the earth which, if ignored, will lead to severely altered climatic conditions with serious consequences for several species and ecosystems. The polar regions especially are very sensitive to climate changes, and the changes these regions undergo affect the climate on a global scale. READ MORE

  3. 3. Grain Size Analysis of Late Pleistocene Loess Deposits, Jersey

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Joakim Edlund; [2022]
    Keywords : Jersey; loess; grain size; ice age; past climate; Jersey; löss; kornstorlek; istid; forntida klimat;

    Abstract : As the world faces the effects of rapid climate change it is essential that we understand how the Earth’s climate has evolved in recent geological history. The island of Jersey harbours loess deposits which hold clues to recent climate change which have not been extensively studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bogged down: Human preservation and decomposition. Using forensic scoring methods to assess three bog bodies from Denmark, England & Ireland.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Arkeologi

    Author : Jennifer Carey; [2021]
    Keywords : bog bodies; bog body research; human remains; Denmark; England; Ireland; forensics; decomposition; preservation; taphonomy; depositional environment; History and Archaeology;

    Abstract : This work looks at three case studies from bog body research in Denmark, England and Ireland in order to investigate the variation of human decomposition in different depositional environments and the application of forensic methods to the area of bog body research in archaeology. The work attempts to assess the chosen case studies using an established forensic scoring method by Heaton et al (2010) and discusses the possible benefits of using an appropriately adapted scoring method for bog body research. 5. 5. Determination of depositional environment and luminescence dating of Pleistocene deposits in the Biely Váh valley, southern foothills of the Tatra Mountains, Slovakia

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Ingrid Bejarano Arias; [2020]
    Keywords : Luminescence dating; glacifluvial deposits; sedimentological analysis; High Tatra Mountains; IRSL dating.; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Tatra Mountains have had several glaciations during the Quaternary. The deposits located in the southern foothills were classified as glacifluvial, based on geomorphology, but its sediments have not been studied in detail. READ MORE
