  1. 1. The Impact of Oat and Fruit Consumption on Short-Chain Fatty Acid Production

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Johanna Margaretha Schilder; [2023]
    Keywords : short-chain fatty acids; SCFAs; diet; gas chromatography; serum; mice; applied nutrition and food chemistry; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Abstract : This study explored the importance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in maintaining gut health and how different diets affect their levels. Blood plasma and serum samples from mice subjected to two intervention studies on oats and fruits were analysed to determine SCFA concentrations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mildly nutritious or mild and nutritious : a study on the effect of low phenolic content in wheat and rye kernels and its sensory effect on whole grain breads

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Julia Kullberg; [2023]
    Keywords : White rye; white wheat; low phenolic flour;

    Abstract : Recent studies on the dietary habits of the Swedish population show that only 30% reaches the recommended levels of dietary fibres. As a high fiber intake is associated with health benefits and a decrease in the risk of developing lifestyle disease, there may be a need for new types of fibre and wholegrain products. READ MORE

  3. 3. Extraction of β-glucan from oat bran : effect of extraction method and particle size

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Julia Abrahamsson; [2020]
    Keywords : Beta glucan; oat bran; subcritical water extraction; viscosity; particle size;

    Abstract : An increasing number of people are suffering from lifestyle related diseases due to poor dietary habits. The recommendation of a fibre intake of 25-35g per day is not achieved by many. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of a Near Infrared Spectroscopy Model for Prediction of Fibre Compounds in Alfalfa

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologi

    Author : Christina Andersen; [2020]
    Keywords : alfalfa; lucerne; medicago sativa; green protein powder; NIR; near infrared spectroscopy; model development; matlab; PLS; partial least squares; PCA; principal component analysis; SNV; standard normal variate; fibre prediction; TDF; total dietary fibre; applied microbiology; teknisk mikrobiologi; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Background: This project investigates if it is possible to develop a calibration model from near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic measurements, for determination of the amount and type of fibre fractions within protein powder produced from the legume alfalfa, without performing wet experiments. Alfalfa is also known as Medicago sativa and lucerne, but is in this project further referred to as alfalfa. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ciona (Ciona intestinalis) as a source of fibre for chickens : Effects on productive performance, organs weights and caecal microbiota

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Author : Qasim Mashood; [2019]
    Keywords : Broiler; dietary fibre; ciona; cellulose; gut microbiota; sodium;

    Abstract : In this experimental study broiler birds were fed in a randomized block design for 32 days on a control diet (C) based on wheat and soy bean meal and two experimental diets containing 2% (C2) and 4% ciona meal (C4) to examine the suitability of Ciona intestinalis in poultry feed as a source of fibre and its effects on growth performance, microbial composition and digestive traits. Luminal content was taken from caeca at day 12 and 32 and analysed for microbiota profile and short chain fatty acids (SCFA). READ MORE
