  1. 1. On intermittency in the turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layer

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Edoardo Foschi; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulence; turbulent boundary layer; intermittency; numerical simulation; DNS; tripping; suction;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a series of direct numerical simulations (DNS) performed in order to understand the discrepancy in the literature regarding turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layers (TASBLs) at low Reynolds numbers. The hypothesis to be tested is that the main reason for higher turbulence intensities observed in experiments compared to DNS is that the latter exhibits intermittent patches of laminar flow, developing both temporally and spatially. 2. 2. Thermal and flow field validation of lattice Boltzmann method solver

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : André Skagius-Kallin; [2023]
    Keywords : Lattice Boltzmann method; heat transfer; flow field;

    Abstract : Computational fluid dynamics, abbreviated CFD, is a valuable tool for several engineering applications. Applications such as heating, cooling or drying are some examples of areas where CFD is used. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigation of charge injection at electrode-dielectric interface relevant for HVDC cables : Simulation of charge injection and transport dynamics in electrical insulation for HVDC cables

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad mekanik

    Author : Mohammed Mosa; [2023]
    Keywords : BCT model; charge injection; space charge density; electric field distribution; Fowler-Nordheim; Richardson-Schottky;

    Abstract : A bipolar charge transport (BCT) model is used to simulate charge injection and transportdynamics inside insulation material which are used in a high voltage direct current (HVDC)cable. Gaining knowledge about space charge density and electric field distribution in theinsulation material enables minimising charge injection at the metal-insulator interface andavoiding unnecessary energy loss. 4. 4. Finite Element Modeling of Installation Effects of Soil-Cement Columns

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Anne Holtmeier; [2022]
    Keywords : Deep Mixing; Soil Stabilization; Installation; Finite Element Method; PLAXIS;

    Abstract : Since the 1970's deep mixing columns have been widely used all over the world to improve the performance of soft soil in regard to bearing capacity or deformation behaviour. They are installed by mixing a binding agent, e.g. cement, in situ with the soil. READ MORE

  5. 5. Kalman-Filter Design and Evaluation for PMSM Rotor-Temperature Estimation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för reglerteknik

    Author : Daniel Mårtensson; [2022]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The permanent magnet synchronous motor, PMSM, is an efficient electrical motor that has seen a greater prevalence in the automotive industry from the increasing demand for electrical vehicles. Managing the temperature of the permanent magnet rotor is important to optimize motor utilization and avoid hardware failures. READ MORE
