  1. 1. Investigating the potential correlations between metal and metalloid concentrations and soil color : A Minor Field Study on the island province of Marinduque, Philippines

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Ivana Pia Saric Söderholm; Erik Readwin; [2023]
    Keywords : Marinduque; Metal and Metalloid; Nix Pro 2 Color Sensor; Philippines; Soil color; X-Ray Fluorescence XRF ; Filippinerna; Jordfärg; Marinduque; Metall och Metalloid; Nix Pro 2 Color Sensor; Röntgenfluorescens XRF ;

    Abstract : This study was carried out as a bachelor's thesis at KTH Royal Institute of Technology during the spring of 2023, investigating the correlation between the color with the concentration of various metal and metalloids (MMs) in the soil of Marinduque, The Philippines. With a history of mineral exploitation, notably copper and gold, the island has faced persistent environmental challenges, exemplified by the catastrophic waste spills in 1993 and 1996 that contaminated the Boac and Mogpog Rivers. 2. 2. Study on Decolorization of Reactive-dyed Cotton through Fenton-oxidation as a Pre-treatment for Textile Recycling

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Elise Meurs; [2023]
    Keywords : Fenton-oxidation; advanced oxidation processes; decolorization; textile recycling; cotton; reactive dye;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, the feasibility of Fenton-oxidation for the decolorization of reactive dyed cotton is investigated as a potentially environmental-friendly preparatory treatment for mechanical/chemical recycling. Raw, knitted cotton is dyed with a black and a blue dye, whereafter preliminary tests are performed to investigate the influence of increasing Fenton- solution concentrations and different iron-sources on the efficiency of the discoloration, without carrying out complete optimization of the process-parameters. Tubers that have different types of scabs or other stains are rejected. In addition, farmers get paid more at higher peel quality. READ MORE

  5. 5. Method Development for Analysis of Antioxidants for Use in Areas Sensitive to Discoloration and of High Molecular Weight UV-Stabilizers

    University essay from KTH/Kemi

    Author : David Camaj; [2022]
    Keywords : Phenolic Antioxidants; UV-Stabilizers; Analysis Method development; Capillary Electrophoresis; MALDI-TOF; Fenoliska Antioxidanter; UV-stabilisatorer; Analysmetodutveckling; Kapillärelektrofores; MALDI-TOF;

    Abstract : Vanliga fenoliska antioxidanter som används i polymerer orsakar färgändringar i polymeren. Detta arbete berör antioxidanter med jämförelsevis begränsad färgändring, med fokus på att utveckla metoder för analys av dessa. UV-stabilisatorerna UV2, UV5, UV1, UV4, UV3 och UV6 är också inkluderade i detta arbete. READ MORE
