  1. 1. Exploring long-term trends in hypoxia (oxygen depletion) in Western Gotland Basin, the Baltic Sea

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Tianzhuo Liu; [2012]
    Keywords : Baltic Sea; hypoxia; lead analysis; lamination; mineral magnetism; loss on ignition; magnetotactic bacteria; Östersjön; hypoxi; bly analys; laminering; glödgningsförlust; magnetotactic bakterier; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Övergödningen är ett av de största hoten mot Östersjöns miljö. Den orsakar inte bara algblomning under sommarhalvåret utan även syrebrist (hypoxi). Utbredningen av syrefria bottnar i Östersjön har ökat fyrfaldigt sedan 1960-talet till följd av ökade utsläpp av näringsämnen, så som fosfor och kväve. READ MORE

  2. 2. Comparison between two sediment X-ray Fluorescence records of the Late Holocene from Disko Bugt, West Greenland : paleoclimatic and methodological implications,

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Oskar Jäckel; [2009]
    Keywords : Disko Bugt; X-ray fluorescence; mineral magnetism; magnetic susceptibility; paleomagnetism; bromine; productivity; Medieval Warm Period; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Popular summary: X-raying the climate archive of Disko Bugt. Disko Bugt is a large bay in West Greenland north of the Arctic Circle. Because of the influence of the relatively warm ocean current coming from the south; the West Greenland Current, it has a mild climate despite its latitude. READ MORE

  3. 3. An environmental magnetic study of a marine sediment core from Disko Bugt, West Greenland : implications for ocean current variability

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Jonas Persson; [2008]
    Keywords : Disko Bugt; mineral magnetism; environmental magnetism; magnetic susceptibility; ARM; SIRM; IRM; HIRM; miljömagnetism; magnetisk mottaglighet; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : An 11 m long marine sediment core was collected during a June-July 2007 scientific cruise with the German research vessel R/V Maria Sibylla Merian to the area of Disko Bugt, western Greenland. The core, designated 343340-6-1, was examined using environmental magnetic methods and X-ray fluorescence. READ MORE

  4. 4. A study of early Holocene climate changes in Småland, Sweden, with focus on the '8.2 kyr event'

    Abstract : Three sediment cores, each 1.5 meters in length, obtained from Lake Byestadsjön in the province of Småland, southern Sweden were studied with high resolution mineral magnetic measurements, carbon content, pollen analysis and XRF analysis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pollen-stratigraphic position of the last Baltic Ice Lake drainage

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Felicia Dobos; [1997]
    Keywords : Baltic Ice Lake; second drainage; Preboreal; Younger Dryas; pollen stratigraphy; mineral magnetic content; total carbon content; Blekinge; Sweden; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : High-resolution analyses of sediments from two sites in Blekinge, south-eastern Sweden (the former Lake Togölen and Lake Bredsjön), were evaluated in order to establish the pollenstratigraphical position of the second and final drainage of the Baltic Ice Lake in relation to the Younger Dryas-Preboreal pollen zone transition. Remanent magnetisation and magnetic susceptibility were used to correlate between parallel cores and to evaluate the amount of inorganic allochthonous material. READ MORE
