  1. 1. Measuring copper abundances in the Galactic Bulge

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Nikolei Höglinger; [2024]
    Keywords : Copper; Galaxy: abundances; Galaxy: bulge; Chemical Evolution; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Context: The chemical evolution of Cu in the Galactic bulge have been studied in a few studies using red giant branch stars, but the ages of individual red giant stars are difficult to determine. In addition, the bulge has been a challenging region of the Milky Way galaxy to obtain high-resolution spectra of stars, except when observing through certain few small fields into the bulge that are known to have low extinction. 2. 2. Hur kan dammar påverka den urbana biologiska mångfalden?

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management (from 130101)

    Author : Saga Forsberg; [2024]
    Keywords : biologisk mångfald; biodiversitet; öppna vatten; dagvattenlösning; urban; ekosystem; ekosystemtjänster; grön-blå infrastruktur; arter; klimatförändringar;

    Abstract : Denna litteraturstudie sammanställer forskningsresultat från andra studier. Det finns många faktorer som påverkar urban biologisk mångfald, som exempelvis vattenföroreningar, övergödning, urban heat island effekten, förekomsten av invasiva arter, angränsande landskapstyp, val av skötsel och utformning av dammen. 3. 3. Estimating historic ranges of extinct scavenging birds from North America during the late Pleistocene using co-occurrence data from the fossil record

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Melissa Miranda; [2023-06-30]
    Keywords : Scavenging birds; Vultures; Co-occurrence Data; Range Estimates; Spatial Autoregressive Models; Co-extinction;

    Abstract : The aim of my study was to estimate and compare the historic range of nine scavenging birds from North America that went jointly extinct with their mammalian megafaunal prey in the Late Pleistocene. Although the severity and timing of their co-extinction are strongly correlated, there has been little analytical support in providing estimates for the possible geographic distribution of scavenging birds prior to the extinction event. 4. 4. A parasitic bivalve affects the interaction between a native and an invasive salmonid

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Brander Isac; [2023-04-18]
    Keywords : Glochidia larvae; Infestation class; General dominance behavior; Dominant subordinate; Strikes;

    Abstract : The glochidia larvae of the freshwater pear mussel parasitize on juvenile brown trout during their maturation into tiny mussels. The parasitation has several negative impacts on the trout, one of the less studied being behavioral effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis of relatedness and genetic diversity in Swedish sheep breeds using medium density (50K) SNP data

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Author : Krishani Devika Wijesinghe Sinhalage; [2023]
    Keywords : sheep; genetic diversity; population structure; inbreeding; runs of homozygosity; coat colour; MC1R;

    Abstract : The local Swedish sheep breeds belong to a group of sheep breeds known as North European short-tailed sheep breeds. Evaluation of genetic diversity, relatedness, and population structure of local breeds offers crucial metrics to prevent inbreeding depression, genetic erosion, and crossbreeding between locally adapted and exotic sheep breeds since these occurrences can have detrimental effects and ultimately lead to extinction.
