  1. 1. Reconstruction of Fire Spread with a Markov Random Field Mixture Model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Marcus Gehrmann; [2023]
    Keywords : Forest fire; fire scars; spatial statistics; Markov random field; EM-algorithm; pseudo-likelihood; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis revolves around reconstructing fire sizes for historical fires in Jämtgaveln, Sweden based on data of fire scars in trees. We propose a Hidden Markov Model (HMM), where the domain is divided into quadratic grid cells of 250 $\times$ 250 m and with these grid cells we associate a binary Markov random field taking values 0 or 1 corresponding to no fire and fire respectively. 2. 2. Uncovering climate and human signals in near-millennium annual fire chronology for Norrbotten county, Northern Sweden

    University essay from SLU/Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre

    Author : Agnieszka Jabłońska; [2021]
    Keywords : Dendrochronology; forest fire history; climate; human impact; boreal forests;

    Abstract : Forest fire is one of the major factors driving the dynamics of the boreal forest. Climate has the most significant contribution in shaping the fire occurrence, its spatial extent and severity. Anthropogenic activities have contributed to variation in fire activity, although the timing and the scale of the human impact are still heavily debated. READ MORE

  3. 3. A weighty issue : estimation of fire size with geographically weighted logistic regression

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Julia Hjalmarsson; [2016]
    Keywords : Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; GIS; geographically weighted logistic regression; fire reconstruction; fire size; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Size estimations of fires that occurred centuries ago have been the subject of study for many decades. More accurate spatial fire histories from tree rings were possible by either drawing the sample location on detailed topographic maps or using GPS receivers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Planning and Design of Earthquake Disaster Relief Corridor in Stricken Cities —— Taking the design of the Yucheng District, Ya’an as application case

    University essay from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola/Institutionen för fysisk planering

    Author : Xuejun Fu; [2014]
    Keywords : Urban Disaster Prevention; Earthquake mitigation; Relief Corridor; Urban design;

    Abstract : City Safety is one of the most important issues facing humanity today. In the last century, given the frequency and intensity of earthquakes, globally as well as in China, more attention was paid to earthquake and disaster prevention approaches. READ MORE

  5. 5. Skogseldens påverkan på epifytiska trädlavar på tall i relation till brandintensiteten

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Author : Teresa Jonsson; [2006]
    Keywords : skogsbrand; lavar; tall; naturvård;

    Abstract : Not much is today known about how epiphytic lichens are effected by fire. A considerable part of the fires in Sweden today are prescribed fires for the purpose of environmental conservation. How these fires affect lichens is largely unknown. READ MORE
