  1. 1. Sedimentary structures and facies of fine grained deep water carbonate turbidites in a Paleocene-Middle Eocene flysch complex, Monte Sporno, northern Apennines, Italy

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Mikael Calner; [1996]
    Keywords : calcareous turbidites; flysch; Monte Sporno; Northern Apennines; calcite compensation depth; sedimentary structures; hemipelagic clays; Bouma sequence; basin plain; provenance; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Monte Sporno flysch unit consists of regularly alternating calcareous turbidites and subordinate hemipelagic clays, deposited in a basin plain environment near, but above, the calcite compensation depth (CCD). Evidence for turbidity current emplacement includes sole markings, Bouma intervals and resedimented shallow-water microfossil species in a deep-water trace fossil assemblage (Nereites ichnofacies). 2. 2. Trace fossils from the Paleocene-Middle Eocene Monte Sporno flysch complex, northern Apennines, Italy

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Hanna Calner; [1996]
    Keywords : Flysch deposits; trace fossils; Zoophycos; Chondrites; Helminthoida labyrinthica; Taphrhelminthopsis; Nereites ichnofacies; pre-depositional; postdepositional; Monte Sporno; Northern Apennines; Italy; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The trace fossil assemblages exposed at the Armorano road section in the Monte Sporno unit, Northern Apennines, Italy, occur in a turbidite sequence composed of fine-grained limestones (mudstones) and argillaceous limestones (wackestones) together with coarser grained calcareous sandstones and claystones, both turbiditic and hemipelagic. Fodinichnial vertical burrows of post-depositional origin and pascichnial horizontal trails of pre-depositional origin alternates depending on lithology. READ MORE
