  1. 16. Reprocessing and Characterization of Polybenzimidazole for High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Douglas Björkengren; [2023]
    Keywords : polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells; PEMFC; HTPEMFC; polymer technology; polymer characterization; reprocessing; recycling; polybenzimidazole; PBI; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A reprocessing method of poly(2,2’-(m-phenylene)-5,5’-bibenzimidazole) (PBI) membranes recovered from the production line of High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (HT-PEMFC) at Blue World Technologies (BWT) has been developed in order to reduce material loss in the production. Redissolution of scrap PBI membranes in poly(phosphoric acid) (PPA) and phosphoric acid (PA) was successful and the subsequent washing procedure produced PBI that could be redissolved in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) and suitable for solution casting of new membranes. 2. 17. The Development and Testing of Low-Cost Heat Transfer Enhancements for Solar Dryers

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Hoda Mahmoodi; [2023]
    Keywords : Solar dryer; Bhutan; Drying rate; Solar absorber; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : In the mountainous regions of Bhutan and Nepal, post-harvest losses cause significant challenges for producers. Open air sun drying is usually used by farmers to preserve their produce. There are many disadvantages to this method. READ MORE

  3. 18. Investigation of the impact of different sugar compositions on the moisture absorption of hard candy when exposed to a humid environment

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Gila van den Eijnde; [2023]
    Keywords : Hard candy; Sugar composition; Hygroscopicity; Moisture absorption; Shelf life; Product stability; Food technology; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Hard candy is hygroscopic, implying that hard candy readily absorbs moisture from the environment, resulting in adverse changes in the texture and appearance of the candy. This thesis investigates the impact of different sugar compositions on the moisture absorption of hard candy when exposed to a humid environment. READ MORE

  4. 19. Assessment of the integration of solar heat power into food drying processes

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Charalampos Psilopoulos; [2023]
    Keywords : Sustainable; sustainability; co2 reduction; feasibility; solar thermal; direct steam generation; drying; food industry; scope 1 emissions; sdg; sustainable development goals; spray drying; drum drying; powder; food; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The long-lasting usage of fossil fuels has brought its negative impact on the planet and thus the society is turning towards more environmentally sustainable solutions in every aspect of life. This master’s thesis discusses the novel topic of integrating concentrated solar thermal collectors, which directly produce steam, to drying processes in the food industry, which is proven to currently emit significant amounts of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs). 5. 20. CFD investigation of a unit cell inside a Plate Heat Exchanger

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Mattias Ly; [2023]
    Keywords : Plate Heat Exchanger; CFD; Computational Fluid Dynamics; LES; Large Eddy Simulation; Periodic; Unit Cell; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A numerical investigation of the unit cell approach has been done to reduce the computational cost for CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) of plate heat exchangers (PHE) at Alfa Laval. The reduced cost would enable LES (Large Eddy Simulation) to be done which would give a more detailed and accurate insight into the flow and heat transfer processes of the PHE. READ MORE
