  1. 1. On intermittency in the turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layer

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Edoardo Foschi; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulence; turbulent boundary layer; intermittency; numerical simulation; DNS; tripping; suction;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a series of direct numerical simulations (DNS) performed in order to understand the discrepancy in the literature regarding turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layers (TASBLs) at low Reynolds numbers. The hypothesis to be tested is that the main reason for higher turbulence intensities observed in experiments compared to DNS is that the latter exhibits intermittent patches of laminar flow, developing both temporally and spatially. 2. 2. Energy-efficient Industrial processes : An investigation in the power consumption, power number, thrust force and torque requirement on a rotating bed reactor

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för tillämpad fysik och elektronik

    Author : Kasim Ali Haji; [2021]
    Keywords : RBR Simulation; CFD models of an RBR; Energy-efficient Industrial processes; Power number; Power consumption; RBR; rotating bed reactor; Experimental and simulation of an RBR; Empirical models of an RBR; Thrust force; Torque requirement; k-epsilon model of an RBR; SST k-omega model of an RBR.;

    Abstract : Rotating bed reactors are used throughout the process industry. They are usedboth in the chemical industry and other industrial sectors, such as pharmaceuticals and the textile industry in decolorization due to by-products or contaminants.SpinChem AB manufactures rotary bed reactors (RBRs) to perform chemical reactions between liquids and solids. 3. 3. CFD-Method for 3D Aerodynamic Adjoint Simulations : For External Automotive Aerodynamics

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Mekanisk värmeteori och strömningslära

    Author : Marcus Lång; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Today’s rules and regulations regarding emissions from combustion vehicles are very strict and the travel range per tank and/or charge, especially for electric vehicles, is a crucial factor which will always be considered by the customers. Hence, automotive manufacturers strive to boost fuel and battery economy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Partially Parabolic Wind Turbine Flow Modelling

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Sebastian Haglund El Gaidi; [2018]
    Keywords : Wind turbine flow; Single wind turbine; Computational fluid dynamics; Partially parabolic Navier-Stokes equations; Finite difference method.;

    Abstract : Climate change is an evermore urging existential treat to the human enterprise. Mean temperature and greenhouse gas emissions have in-creased exponentially since the industrial revolution. But solutions are also mushrooming with exponential pace. READ MORE

  5. 5. Turbulence at MHD and sub-ion scales in the magnetosheath of Saturn : a comparative study between quasi-perpendicular and quasi-parallel bow shocks using in-situ Cassini data

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi; Uppsala universitet/Institutet för rymdfysik, Uppsalaavdelningen

    Author : Khaled Al Moulla; [2018]
    Keywords : Saturn; magnetosheath; bow shock; turbulence; Cassini; Saturnus; magnetoskikt; bogchock; turbulens; Cassini;

    Abstract : The purpose of this project is to investigate the spectral properties of turbulence in the magnetosheath of Saturn, using in-situ magnetic field measurements from the Cassini spacecraft. According to models of incompressible, turbulent fluids, the energy spectrum in the inertial range scales as the frequency to the power of -5/3, which has been observed in the near-Earth Solar wind but not in the Terrestrial magnetosheath unless close to the magnetopause.
