  1. 1. Chemical recycling of cotton-based waste textiles by sulfuric acid hydrolysis

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)

    Author : Edvin Ruuth; [2020]
    Keywords : recycling; hydrolysis; cotton; waste textiles; sulfuric acid; glucose; chemical engineering; kemiteknik; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Large amounts of waste textiles are produced annually, of which only a small fraction is recycled currently. The purpose of this study was to develop a method to recycle cotton-based waste textiles chemically that can be coupled to the production of biofuels or green chemicals. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nanoscale detection of insulin granule sub-structures using dSTORM imaging

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Yu Hong; [2020]
    Keywords : islet β-cells; dSTORM imaging; Alexa Fluor 647; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a global disease, mainly caused by insufficient insulin secre- tion from pancreatic islet β-cells. Insulin is stored in the granules of islet β-cells and released in response to extracellular stimuli e.g. glucose. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Microwave and Enzyme Treatments on the Softness of Barley Kernels

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Ilias Nikolakakis; [2020]
    Keywords : food engineering; livsmedelsteknik; Agriculture and Food Sciences; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The present master thesis was performed in cooperation with the company “Aventure AB”. The company’s R&D department envisioned a new yoghurt-based product able to decrease the blood glucose levels after a meal. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of a Method for Separation of Adenine Nucleotides

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Erika Miegel; [2020]
    Keywords : analytical chemistry; HPLC; HILIC; chromatography; technical analytical chemistry; teknisk analytisk kemi; Chemistry; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Adenosine tetraphosphate, or Ap4A, is a nucleotide with very interesting proposed biological effects. Previous studies have indicated that blood glucose levels in mammals might increase in the presence of Ap4A, and that Ap4A might antagonize pancreatic ATP channels. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluating Sugar Signaling during Xylose Oxidation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologi

    Author : Viktor Persson; [2020]
    Keywords : Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast; xylose oxidation; sugar signaling; biosensor; applied microbiology; teknisk mikrobiologi; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The sugar signaling state of cells oxidizing xylose was investigated through the chromosomal integration of the Weimberg pathway into previously established biosensor strains capable of monitoring the Snf3p/Rgt2p, SNF1/Mig1p, and cAMP/PKA pathways through the expression of HXT1, SUC2, and TPS1, respectively. Ultimately, two new strains were successfully developed containing both the Weimberg pathway and a biosensor for either HXT1 (TMB CB 112) or TPS1 (TMB CB 117). READ MORE
