  1. 1. Carabidocoenoses and Fragments of Forests : exploring the Carabid Landscape

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Author : Simon Heinrich Arns; [2023]
    Keywords : biodiversity; Carabidae; carabid diversity; entomology; Fragmentation; Fragstats; habitat fragmentation; habitat Heterogeneity; landscape; landscape ecology; landscape Heterogeneity; pitfall trap; quantifying fragmentation;

    Abstract : Epigeic ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were sampled between 2021-06-28 and 2021-07-09 using pitfall traps in the Swedish counties Värmland and Gävleborg. The structural properties of the landscapes surrounding these points were estimated from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s national land cover databases and the Swedish Forest Agency’s data for all formally protected and high conservation value forests using patch-based configurational metrics. 2. 2. Multi-scale Bark Beetle Predictions Using Machine Learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Albert Øhrman Wellendorf; [2023]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Geographically weighted regression; bark beetle; machine learning; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Bark beetle attacks have led to widespread tree disturbance and deaths in many parts of the world, and thereby also economic and biodiversity losses. Forest-rich Sweden has experienced periodic attacks, latest in 2018. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characteristics of instream wood following alluvial river restoration : Using Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Martina Fjällberg; [2023]
    Keywords : River restoration; instream wood; uncrewed aerial vehicles; fluvial geomorphology.;

    Abstract : River restoration is something that is often used to help restore watercourses that were historically used for timber floating. In these restorations, instream wood (IW) plays a big role in increasing biodiversity and habitat heterogeneity in watercourses. READ MORE

  4. 4. The diversity of moths in a nature reserve in the Northern Cape, South Africa : Variation over time, depending on abiotic factors and differences between areas with different grazing types

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM)

    Author : Nellie Jarl; [2023]
    Keywords : Moth diversity; grazing effects; land use; biodiversity;

    Abstract : Land use changes globally have significant impacts on flora and fauna. In South Africa, extensive land is used for grazing by both domestic livestock and farmed native grazers. However, the effects of different grazing types on vegetation and fauna remain poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of restoration efforts in Dalälven - conditions for survival rate of Salmo trutta and Salmo salar

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Ville Svärd; [2023]
    Keywords : Restoration; river; salmonids; benthic fauna;

    Abstract : Rivers are among the most anthropogenically affected ecosystems in the world by irrigation, transportation, channelizing, and hydropower. Habitat restorations have become a popular method to restore the heterogeneity and complexity of rivers aiming for improvement of biodiversity. READ MORE
