  1. 16. Verification of the fluid dynamics modules of the multiphysics simulation framework MOOSE : A work to test a candidate software for molten salt reactor analysis

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Erik Gustafsson; [2022]
    Keywords : molten salt reactor MSR ; small modular reactor SMR ; computational fluid dynamics CFD ; multiphysics; MOOSE;

    Abstract : This is a report of a verification study of the multiphysics simulation framework MOOSE which was preformed at the company Seaborg Technologies. In the process of designing molten salt reactors there is a special need of making credible multiphysics simulations since the fuel is in motion. READ MORE

  2. 17. Design of compact automotive heat exchanger, analysing the effects of RANS models and utilising Additive Manufacturing

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Nikhil Srikkanth; Bartosz Brzuchalski; [2022]
    Keywords : Turbulence; Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes; KTH Formula Student; metal additive manufacturing; CFD; turbulent kinetic energy; boundary layer;

    Abstract : The analytical modelling of complex turbulent airflow remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of physics, but in this paper two widely used Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes models (k-$\epsilon$ and k-$\omega$ SST) are compared while designing a heat exchanger for the KTH Formula Student electric race car. CAD software was used to design lattices for the heat exchanger core and theorise about how to increase heat transfer while also taking into account the utilisation of metal additive manufacturing. 3. 18. Functional Modelling and Simulation of the Off-Design Operation of a Cryogenic Engine

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Brice Metzinger; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Exploration Company is a French and German start-up that develops and operates Nyx, an orbital vehicle that also has a lunar version. This thesis focuses on the modeling and simulation of the off-design operation of the cryogenic engine of Nyx. READ MORE

  4. 19. Influence of mixing and heat transfer in process scale-up

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Paula Martín Díaz; [2022]
    Keywords : Scale-up; mixing; heat transfer; computational fluid dynamics; process simulation;

    Abstract : Process scale-up studies are, generally, non-linear. This basically means that it is not possible to take a chemical process in the laboratory and bring it to a pilot or production plant by simply increasing the quantities of chemicals and the equipment size proportionally. 5. 20. CFD Based External Heat Transfer Coefficient Predictions on a Transonic Film-Cooled Gas Turbine Guide Vane : A Computational Fluid Dynamics Study on the Von Karman Institute LS94 Test Case

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Mekanisk värmeteori och strömningslära

    Author : Rosalie Johnsson; Lilian Asiegbu; [2022]
    Keywords : gas turbine; turbine inlet guide vane; film-cool; film cool; Computational Fluid Dynamics; CFD; heat transfer coefficient; Shear Stress Transport k-ω; SST k-ω; Scale Resolving Hybrid; SRH; turbulence modelling;

    Abstract : The turbine inlet guide vanes of a gas-turbine are subjected to extreme hot gas temperatures which increases the risk of mechanical failure and overall reduces the component lifespan. Hence, it is of great interest for gas-turbine manufacturers to establish methods for accurately estimating the temperature distribution along the vane surface. READ MORE
