  1. 1. Reevaluating the Notion of Peace : Do Our Current Measurements Truly Reflect Peace?

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för samhällsstudier (SS)

    Author : Sanna Besic; [2024]
    Keywords : Peace Measuring; Peace Studies; Peace Conceptualisation; Peace Measurements; Violence; Direct Violence; Structural Violence; Cultural Violence;

    Abstract : There is an ongoing theme within the field of peace conceptualisation to create and to add to the meaning of peace. This has caused a fragmented field with over 130 conceptualisations. As we move forward, it isthus necessary to review whether the methods utilised to measure peace are suitable in the ever changing contexts of today. READ MORE

  2. 2. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  3. 3. Feasibility Study on Additive Manufacturing of Copper Windings using Electron Beam Melting

    University essay from KTH/Produktionsutveckling

    Author : Marilena Wiele; Murad Abulawi; [2023]
    Keywords : Electron beam melting; Additive manufacturing; Electric motor windings; Hairpin windings; Winding design; Copper; Parameter optimization; Electrical conductivity; Elektronstrålesmältning; Additiv tillverkning; Elmotorlindningar; Hårnålslindningar; Lindningsdesign; Koppar; Parameteroptimering; Elektrisk ledningsförmåga;

    Abstract : Within the framework of this thesis, the electron beam melting of pure copper for the purpose of producing electrical windings was examined. The conventional manufacturing process of copper windings was investigated, and the potential advantages offered by the design freedom inherent in the electron beam melting process were explored. 4. 4. Akrasia and Addiction in the age of Social Media

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Filosofiska institutionen

    Author : Benjamin Engström; [2023]
    Keywords : Akrasia; Weakness of will; Freedom of the Will; Addiction; Social Media Addiction; Dopamine; Dual system theory;

    Abstract : The concept of weakness of will, or Akrasia, relates to questions regarding the rationality of our choices. Philosophers such as Richard Holton and Alfred Mele have spearheaded the debate since the turn of the century, but quite recently arguments put forth by Nick Heather and Edmund Henden have catapulted the question into a subgenre between the medical, psychological, and philosophical fields.
