  1. 1. Advancing understanding of tropical forest carbon dynamics through improved allometric models for palms: A case study with Prestoea montana in Puerto

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Växtekologi och evolution; Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Paschalis Chatzopoulos; [2021]
    Keywords : Above ground biomass; allometry; Luquillo Forest Dynamics Plot; Palms;

    Abstract : Tropical forests are major components of Earth’s carbon stocks, but their diversity and structural complexity pose major challenges for making accurate estimates of their above ground biomass (AGB). Palms, in particular, are prominent and unique components of many tropical forests that have anatomical and physiological differences from dicot trees which affect their height - diameter allometry and consequently, our ability to accurately estimate their AGB. 2. 2. A STATISTICAL APPROACH FOR IDENTIFICATION OF CHEMICAL GROUPINGS OF ELEMENTS IN SWEDISH ROCKS WITH SPECIAL FOCUS ON ARSENIC AND SULPHUR

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Statistiska institutionen

    Author : Erika Frank; [2021]
    Keywords : Bedrock; rock type; correlation; cluster analysis; multi-dimensional scaling; individual differences scaling; discriminant analysis;

    Abstract : Groundwater analyses have revealed high concentrations of the toxic element arsenic around Stockholm and Mälardalen, a problem that often is linked to high levels of arsenic in the bedrock and which could be escalated by the many construction projects in the same region. However, it is unknown what part of the bedrock is causing the contamination. READ MORE

  3. 3. Are risk preferences stable? -An interdisciplinary analysis of context-invariance risk preferences in a hypothetical investment scenario.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Elnaz Sarvioskouey; [2011]
    Keywords : Range Frequency Theory; Expected Utility Theory; Choice under risk; Stability of risk preferences; Numerical ability; Financial literacy.; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : The objectives of this paper was to; examine if risk preferences are stable across different distribution contexts, in line with the prediction of the expected utility theory (EUT); if the range frequency theory (RFT) (Parducci, 1965) can account for observed choice behaviour in a hypothetical investment scenario; and lastly, analyse the potential factors that can account for the individual differences in the degree of risk preference stability. In order to tackle these issues, primary data was obtained through a questionnaire, where respondents had provided their certainty equivalent (CE) value for each hypothetical investment gamble (CE values are used as a proxy for risk preferences).
