  1. 1. Transverse Momentum Spectra in pp collisions (\sqrt{s}\) = 7 TeV and \(\sqrt{s}\) = 13 TeV in ALICE

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Andreas Stokkeland; [2023]
    Keywords : Multiplicity; Multiplicity classes; Soft interactions; Quark Gluon Plasma; QGP; transverse momentum; p_T; Chi-squared; fits; fit functions; Levy; Lévy; Exponential; BGBW; Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave; Fermi-Dirac; Bose-Einstein; Boltzmann; pion; kaon; proton; transverse momentum spectra; p_T spectra; surface velocity; Minimum Bias; MB; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project particle production as a function of transverse momentum (\(p_{\rm T}\)) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy (\(\sqrt{s}\)) of 7 TeV and 13 TeV has been studied. The transverse momentum is interesting to study since it reflects momentum created in the collision (before the collision, all momentum is in the beam - going in a longitudinal direction) and therefore gives information on the collision dynamics. 2. 2. Validation of simulation with enhanced kaon production to investigate kaon background for LDMX

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Lisa Andersson Loman; [2023]
    Keywords : Dark matter; experimental physics; simulations; kaons; particle physics; LDMX; background studies; mörk materia; partikelfysik; kaoner; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Dark matter is one of our universe’s largest mysteries and very little is known about what it is. One of the dominating theories, that it originates from an early universe thermal relic, indicates that it has interaction with the Standard Model. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fitting the pion and kaon mass and decay constant to lattice data

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Hector Tiblom; [2021]
    Keywords : chiral perturbation theory; lattice QCD; pion mass; kaon mass; decay constant; low-energy QCD; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We use lattice QCD data to perform a fit of the pion and kaon mass and decay constant to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in three-flavor Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). To improve our fits, we make use of finite volume corrections at both one- and two-loop order. This turns out to provide a small but noticeable improvement of our fits. READ MORE

  4. 4. Derivation of Improved K^0_L Response Uncertainty for use in the Jet Energy Scale Calibration at ATLAS

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Alexander Ekman; [2019]
    Keywords : kaon; neutral kaon; K^0_L; K_Long; klong; single-particle response; response; detector response; calorimeter; ATLAS; CERN; jets; trigger level analysis; TLA; physics list; Monte Carlo; MC; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics (SM) attempts to describe the fundamental particles and how they interact with each other. This model is however incomplete, as shown by various experimental observations. ATLAS is one of the experiments currently in operation at the Large Hadron Collider, which aims to search for new physics beyond the SM. READ MORE

  5. 5. The kaon electromagnetic mass difference in AdS/QCD

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Jack Borthwick; [2016]
    Keywords : particle physics; AdS QCD; AdS CFT; kaon; electromagnetic mass difference; quantum field theory; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a holographic model for quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is used to estimate the electromagnetic contribution to the kaon mass difference. The principal ideas of the model are inspired by the AdS/CFT correspondence, which is believed to be exact. READ MORE
