  1. 1. Exploring New Physics Through Collider and Gravitational Wave Measurements with Artificial Neural Networks: the Case Study of QCD-like Technicolor

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Ashar Ahmed Kamal; [2023]
    Keywords : Artificial Neural Networks; ANN; Beyond the Standard Model; BSM; parameter space scan; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : With physicists actively exploring Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories that may fill in the gaps of the Standard Model (SM), a fundamental question arises: which parameters hold physical significance? In this thesis, we present our initial progress towards the development of a model-independent artificial intelligence framework designed for conducting parameter space scans in BSM scenarios. Our framework incorporates several publicly available high-energy physics packages, namely SPheno, HiggsBounds, HiggsSignals, and CosmoTransitions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Void Evolution and Cosmic Star Formation

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Joel Wasserman; [2023]
    Keywords : Void; Void Evolution; Cosmic Void; Star Formation Rate; Star Formation History; Cosmic Star Formation; Cosmology; Spherical Evolution Model; SvdW; Vdn; Excursion Set Theory; Excursion Set Formalism; Astrophysics; Astronomy; Cosmic Web; Matter Transfer; Tomrum; Tomrumsutveckling; Kosmiska Tomrum; Stjärnbildningshastighet; Stjärnbildningshistorik; Kosmisk stjärnbildning; Kosmologi; Sfärisk Evolutionsmodell; SvdW; Vdn; Exkursionsset teori; Exkursionsset Formalism; Astrofysik; Astronomi; Kosmiska Spindelnätet; Masstransport;

    Abstract : The rate at which stars have formed throughout the history of theuniverse is not constant, it started out slow, increased until around redshift ∼ 2 when it reversed and became slower again. The reason for this behaviour is still being investigated with various models and simulations usually based upon dark matter halos. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analyzing the dust of the Nearby Universe

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Observationell astrofysik

    Author : Jimmy Kjellqvist; [2021]
    Keywords : Intergalactic dust; cosmology; cosmological measurements; quasars; Intergalaktiskt stoft; kosmologi; kosmologiska mätningar; kvasarer;

    Abstract : The aim of this master thesis is to investigate the influence of intergalactic duston astronomical observations. The current cosmological paradigm of an acceleratingcosmic expansion is supported by observations of Type Ia supernovae. READ MORE

  4. 4. Death's reflection in the water : Mortuary ritual, ancestral worship and the cosmological significance of water on the island of Gotland during the Pitted Ware culture

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Arkeologi

    Author : Maja Hed; [2021]
    Keywords : ritual; neolithic; grave goods; cosmology; flowing water; divinity; death; Pitted Ware culture; ritual; neolitikum; gravgåvor; kosmologi; rörligt vatten; gudomlighet; död; Gropkeramisk kultur;

    Abstract : The Pitted Ware culture on Gotland presents a multitude of material that allow archeologists to re-construct and visit the socio-economic structure of a middle-neolithic settlement in the Baltic sea. I will be analyzing the archaeological material in accordance to the ocean, and to what we can interpret as ritual and cosmological variables at the site through ritual theory, and with a method of comparative analogy and research. 5. 5. Galaxies as Clocks and the Universal Expansion

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Anders Ahlström Kjerrgren; [2021]
    Keywords : cosmology; cosmic chronometers; universal expansion; Hubble parameter; differential ages; galaxy age; relative age; cosmic time; chi-square minimization; monte carlo sampling; gaussian processes; kosmologi; kosmisk kronometer; universums expansion; Hubbleparametern; differentiell ålder; galaxålder; relativ ålder; kosmisk tid; chi-2-minimering; monte carlo-sampling; gaussiska processer;

    Abstract : The Hubble parameter H(z) is a measure of the expansion rate of the universe at redshift z. One method to determine it relies on inferring the slope of the redshift with respect to cosmic time, where galaxy ages can be used as a proxy for the latter. This method is used by Simon et al.
