  1. 1. First principles investigation of the thermal conductivity of Zr, ZrC, and ZrN

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Daniel Karlsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Electron-phonon interaction; Density functional theory; Boltzmann transport equation; first-principles; thermal conductivity; electrical resistivity; Abinit; Phono3py; Elektron-fononväxelverkan; täthetsfunktionalteori; Boltzmanns transportekvation; värmeledningsförmåga; elektrisk resistivitet; Abinit; Phono3py;

    Abstract : The thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity of Zr, ZrC, and ZrN were calculated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) and the Boltzmann transport equation. The electron-phonon scattering was modeled via the self-energy relaxation time approximation (SERTA), and the phonon-phonon scattering via the analogous single-mode relaxation time approximation (SMRTA). 2. 2. Towards a setup for narrowband terahertz generation through difference-frequency mixing of chirped ultrashort pulses

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Isa Clementsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Terahertz radiation is a useful tool for inducing lower-energy excitations in matter, where it can be used to cause structural changes through direct interaction with the crystal lattice. Sub-picosecond optical pulses can be used to generate intense broadband terahertz pulses through optical rectification in nonlinear crystals, reaching peak electric fields of several MV/m and conversion efficiencies as high as a few percent. 3. 3. Studies of the axial-vector transition form factors of the process Ω− → W−Ξ0 in chiral perturbation theory

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Kärnfysik

    Author : Hélène De Munck; [2023]
    Keywords : Transition form Factors; Next-to-next-to-leading order; chiral perturbation theory; axial-vector; Ω− → W−Ξ0;

    Abstract : This work is included in a broader research of the hadron theory group of Uppsala University and its collaborators tackling the quest for an understanding of the quark distribution inside hadrons by joining threedifferent approaches of QCD namely chiral perturbation theory, dispersion theory and lattice QCD. This thesis contributes by computing in chiral perturbation theory, the quark-masses dependence of form factors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Damage Analysis of Reactive Ion and Atomic Layer Etched Silicon

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fasta tillståndets fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Mohammad Al Abrash; [2023]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Dry etching is one of the most important methods of pattern transfer in nanofabrication. There are many dry etching methods, the most commonly used is reactive ion etching (RIE), that is based on a continuous supply of reactive ions and radicals generated in a radio-frequency (RF) plasma discharge. 5. 5. Ab inito calculation of the formation energy of the sigma phases at 1000 Kelvin : With a five sublattice model for the ternary Iron-Chromium-Nickel system

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Fabian Mathias Veid; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This project investigates the σ-phase formation energy at 1000 Kelvin using Exact Muffin TIn Orbital (EMTO) method and considers the disordered local moment approach to handle the paramagnetism in a self-consistent manner. The sigma phase is detrimental and causes embrittlement when it occurs primarily in stainless steel and superalloys with Iron (Fe) and Chromium (Cr), which is why it is necessary to understand it better and therefore avoid it.
