  1. 1. Using a GIS to enable an economic, land use and energy output comparison between small wind powered turbines and large-scale wind farms: the case of Oslo, Norway.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Colin Potter; [2023]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Wind power; Renewable energy sources; urban wind energy; urban areas; planning; vertical axis wind turbines; comparative studies; urban integrated energy systems; Oslo; Roan; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Responding to an identified knowledge gap, the study aims to determine if smaller wind turbines located on top of existing urban buildings are more resource efficient (land utilization and economically) than large scale wind farms. To answer this question, using a GIS, the resource efficiency of the Roan wind farm in Northern Norway was compared to a theoretical modeled installation of small-scale wind turbines on top of buildings within a 2km radius study zone in central Oslo. 2. 2. Trainable Region of Interest Prediction: Hard Attention Framework for Hardware-Efficient Event-Based Computer Vision Neural Networks on Neuromorphic Processors

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik

    Author : Cina Arjmand; [2023]
    Keywords : Artifical Intelligence; Machine Learning; Neuromorphic Engineering; Computer Vision; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Neuromorphic processors are a promising new type of hardware for optimizing neural network computation using biologically-inspired principles. They can effectively leverage information sparsity such as in images from event-based cameras, and are well-adapted to processing event-based data in an energy-efficient fashion. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improving the Design of Holographic ICT tools in e-Learning : A User-Centered Approach

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för informatik (IK)

    Author : Konstantin Tcykin; [2022]
    Keywords : Information and Communication Technology Tools; Computer-Mediated Communication; Holography; Holographic Communication; E-Learning; User-Centered Design;

    Abstract :      Information and Communication Technology (ICT) nowadays is constantly evolving and drastically impacting different fields of human activity, such as higher education. University education, due to ICT, was able to move from the traditional teaching and learning practices to e-Learning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Have Radial Velocity Surveys Missed Any Planets?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Shah Raj; [2021]
    Keywords : radial velocity survey; transit method; exoplanet; habitable zone; habitable zone boundaries; HZ; early Mars; recent Venus; stability; instability; chaos; REBOUND; MEGNO; MEGNO maps; Hill sphere; stable systems; unstable systems; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The project was aimed at numerically assessing exoplanetary systems to distinguish their capabilities of hosting additional planets. The shortcomings of the radial velocity method sometimes causes hindrance in the detection of terrestrial planets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Weed Detection in UAV Images of Cereal Crops with Instance Segmentation

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för system- och rymdteknik

    Author : Arina Gromova; [2021]
    Keywords : computer vision; deep learning; CNN; mask R-CNN; weed detection;

    Abstract : Modern weeding is predominantly carried out by spraying whole fields with toxic pesticides, a process that accomplishes the main goal of eliminating weeds, but at a cost of the local environment. Weed management systems based on AI solutions enable more targeted actions, such as site-specific spraying, which is essential in reducing the need for chemicals. READ MORE
