  1. 1. Secondary aerosol formation from dimethyl sulfide - Smog chamber experiments and detailed process modelling

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Dana Lüdemann; [2020]
    Keywords : aerosol modelling; atmospheric physics and chemistry; marine aerosols; ADCHAM; aerosol; dimethyl sulfide; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the secondary aerosol formation from dimethylsulfide (DMS) using the aerosol dynamics, gas- and particle-phase chemistry kinetic multi-layer model, ADCHAM. The first simulations, concerning the butanol oxidation via hydroxyl radicals (OH), were performed to characterize the UV-light source of the AURA smog chamber (Aarhus university, Denmark), later used for the DMS experiments. 2. 2. The Metal Content in Airborne Particles in Landskrona

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Wouter Prosper; [2017]
    Keywords : Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Landskrona has for a long time had problems with high concentrations of Pb and other heavy metals in the air. Measurements investigating the content of airborne particles have been performed in 1977, 1988, 2003 and 2008 and show an influence from heavy industries, traffic in town and transboundary pollution. 3. 3. Is there new particle formation in the marine boundary layer of the North Sea?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Natalia Kelbus; [2014]
    Keywords : Geography; Physical Geography; aerosol particles; new particle formation; nucleation; particle size distribution; NanoMap; Science General; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The effect of aerosol particles on climate and the human health emphasizes the necessity to focus on the research about aerosol particles. Aerosol particles emitted due to anthropogenic activities increase the scattering and absorption of solar radiation in the atmosphere which leads to an increased cooling of the climate (direct effect). 4. 4. Anthropogenic influence on new particle formation in the marine boundary layer atmosphere

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik

    Author : Vilhelm Berg Malmborg; [2014]
    Keywords : Climate change; Aerosols; Physics; Modelling; New particle formation; NPF; NanoMap; ADCHEM; Shipping emissions; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The most important parameter for estimates of the anthropogenic induced climate change is the radiative forcing. In a comparison of the earth’s radiative budget in the year 2011 relative to 1750, the intergovernmental panel on climate change concludes that the largest uncertainty in the total radiative forcing derives from aerosol particles and their ability to modify cloud properties as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN).
