  1. 1. Computationally Efficient Explainable AI: Bayesian Optimization for Computing Multiple Counterfactual Explanantions

    University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)

    Author : Giorgio Sacchi; [2023]
    Keywords : Explainable AI; Counterfactual Explanations CFEs ; Bayesian Optimization BO ; Black-Box Models; Model-Agnostic; Machine Learning ML ; Efficient Computation; High-Stake Decisions; Förklarbar AI; Kontrafaktuell Förklaring CFE ; Bayesiansk Optimering BO ; Svarta lådmodeller; Modellagnostisk; Maskininlärning; Beräkningsmässigt Effektiv; Beslut med höga insatser;

    Abstract : In recent years, advanced machine learning (ML) models have revolutionized industries ranging from the healthcare sector to retail and E-commerce. However, these models have become increasingly complex, making it difficult for even domain experts to understand and retrace the model's decision-making process. READ MORE

  2. 2. Multiple-Emitter Super-resolution Imaging using the Alternating Descent Conditional Gradient Method

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Dolev Illouz; [2023]
    Keywords : super-resolution; alternating descent conditional gradient method; ADCG; multiple-emitter localization; nanoscale imaging; single molecule tracking; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the state-of-the-art 2D super-resolution technique alternating descent conditional gradient (ADCG) method's ability to accurately localize fluorophores in diffraction-limited single molecule images (SMI) and analyze the impact of pre-processing and post-processing modules on ADCG's fluorophore localization. A synthetic dataset obtained from the 2013 Grand Challenge localization microscopy and a temporally linked dataset obtained from an unpublished set of Optical DNA mapping experiments performed by Jonathan Jeffet at the NanoBioPhotonix Lab at Tel-Aviv University were initially segmented to extract their noise parameters. 3. 3. Evaluation of load distribution on ballasted reinforced concrete railway trough bridges

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Byggkonstruktion och brand

    Author : Alex Eriksson; [2023]
    Keywords : Concrete; numerical analysis; trough bridge; railway bridge; finite element model; discrete element method; Betong; numeriskanalys; trågbro; tågbro; finita elementmetoden; diskreta elementmetoden;

    Abstract : A significant portion of the reinforced concrete railway bridges in Sweden are reaching their designed lifespan and are scheduled to be demolished and replaced in the upcoming years. To limit the econom-icand environmental impact related to the replacement of existing railway infrastructure, a comprehen-siveevaluation of their capacity is required with the aim of extending its lifespan. 4. 4. Conform with the Wind : Processing short-term ensemble forecasts with conformal based methods for probabilistic wind-speed forecasting

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Simon Althoff; [2023]
    Keywords : wind-speed; probabilistic; forecasts; forecasting; ensemble; post-processing; conformal prediction; conformal predictive systems; quantile regression forest; non-exchangeable; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : Forecasting wind has always been an interesting subject, and as large parts of the world are relying more on wind for power production it is becoming even more important to have reliable forecasts. Probabilistic forecasts, where distributions are predicted in contrast to deterministic forecasts, are impor- tant for informed decision making. READ MORE

  5. 5. Minimum Cost Distributed Computing using Sparse Matrix Factorization

    University essay from KTH/Optimeringslära och systemteori

    Author : Seif Hussein; [2023]
    Keywords : Applied mathematics; optimization; convex optimization; matrix factorization; sparse matrix factorization; distributed computing; linearly separable distributed computing; ADMM; alternating direction method of multipliers; tillämpad matematik; optimering; konvex optimering; matrisfaktorisering; gles matrisfaktorisering; distribuerade beräkningar; admm; alternating direction method of multipliers;

    Abstract : Distributed computing is an approach where computationally heavy problems are broken down into more manageable sub-tasks, which can then be distributed across a number of different computers or servers, allowing for increased efficiency through parallelization. This thesis explores an established distributed computing setting, in which the computationally heavy task involves a number of users requesting a linearly separable function to be computed across several servers.
