  1. 1. Naïve listeners’ perceptual learning of Chinese tones: The influence of L1 background in prosody and the effect of an auditory-image (AI) training paradigm

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Allmän språkvetenskap; Lunds universitet/Masterprogram: Språk och språkvetenskap

    Author : Lili Wen; [2019]
    Keywords : Tone perception; Tone acquisition; Mandarin 声调感知; Languages and Literatures;

    Abstract : The present perceptual learning study was conducted in an attempt to investigate to which extent naïve listeners’ L1 prosodic background affected their learning performance of a lexical tone language and whether an auditory-image (AI) training paradigm curtailed the online-learning process of lexical tones. Thirty-three Mandarin-naïve Swedish-native listeners (NS listeners) and 33 Mandarin-naïve English-native listeners (NE listeners) participated in a behaviour experiment designed to answer the question of whether native listeners of a pitch accent language (NS listeners) had an advantage over native listeners of a non-tonal non-pitch-accent language (NE listeners) in learning to perceive tones in Mandarin Chinese (MC). 2. 2. Predicting Patient Length Of Stay at Time of Admission Using Machine Learning

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Olle Andersson; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This master thesis investigates the possibility of using machine learning methods to predict patient length of stay at the time of admission to a clinical ward from the emergency department. The main aim of this thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of different algorithms and to suggest a suitable model that can be used in a hospital prediction software. READ MORE

  3. 3. Detection of glass in RDF using NIR spectroscopy

    University essay from Mälardalens högskola/Akademin för ekonomi, samhälle och teknik

    Author : Philip Hedlund; [2018]
    Keywords : NIR; spectroscopy; RDF; glass; CFB; boiler; performance; losses; NIR; spektroskopi; RDF; glas; CFB; panna; prestanda; förluster;

    Abstract : Purpose of this study was to investigate the possibilities of using Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to detect glass in refuse derived fuel (RDF) as well as what on-line data of glass content could be used for in terms of boiler operation and performance determination. Sample configurations were done with dried RDF (to prevent mass loss due to moisture and spectroscopic disturbance) and increasing concentrations of colored soda-lime glass, total of 100 samples. 4. 4. Implementation of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) riboswitches as synthetic biosensors and regulatory tools in cyanobacteria

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Hanna Eriksson; [2018]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The natural occurrence of the non-mevalonate (also called MEP after the compound methyl-erythriol phosphate) pathway in the model cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 allows for biosynthesis of various high-value terpenoid compounds. READ MORE
