  1. 1. Principal Component Analyses of Final States in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions using PYTHIA/Angantyr

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Nicoline Krogh Hemme; [2020]
    Keywords : Relativistic Nuclear Collisions; Heavy-ion Collisions; Pythia; Angantyr; String Shoving; Colour Reconnection; Principal Component Analysis; Anisotropic Flow; Elliptic Flow; Event-by-event Fluctuations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We develop a program to perform a principal component analysis of flow fluctuations using simulations of nuclear collisions produced by the PYTHIA/Angantyr event generator. We consider both p+p and p+Pb collision events and study the leading and subleading modes of the second flow harmonic. READ MORE

  2. 2. An attempt to isolate the double ridge in high multiplicity pp collisions using the transverse spherocity

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Mevine Staaden; [2018]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : One of the hot topics at the LHC is the double ridge observed in small systems. Originally it was found in p-Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV when subtracting low multiplicity from high multiplicity events. This thesis attempts to isolate a double ridge in pp collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 13 TeV by utilizing multiplicity and transverse spherocity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Separation of Hard and Soft Production in High Multiplicity pp Collisions using Transverse Spherocity

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Anna Önnerstad; [2017]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : A big question at LHC is if the Quark-Gluon Plasma is produced in small systems such as pp and p-Pb collisions. A general problem in small systems is that possible medium effects are small and can be obscured by hard collisions such as jet production. READ MORE

  4. 4. Production of K0S and Lambda in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=5.02 TeV Measured with the ALICE Detector at the LHC

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Madeleine Burheim; [2017]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis presents an analysis of the production of K_S^0 and Λ particles in p-Pb collisions at a center of mass collision energy of sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02 TeV, measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC, CERN. The p_T spectra as well as the baryon-to-meson yield ratio Λ/K_S^0, for p_T .. READ MORE

  5. 5. Forward backward correlations in pp and p-Pb collisions using the TPC at ALICE

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Martin Passad; [2016]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the use of \(\nu_{dyn}\) to investigate the ridge structure in p-p and p-Pb collisions using the ALICE detector at LHC. The conclusions drawn in this thesis is that there is nothing which indicates long range correlations, but that the multiplicity dependence of forward-backward correlations measured using \(\nu_{dyn}\) is dominated by an increase in the local contribution from jet production.
