  1. 1. Fertility responses to climate change in West Africa

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen

    Author : Eduardo Arancon Simal; [2021]
    Keywords : Social Sciences;

    Abstract : We analyse the effects of climate anomalies on women’s fertility in West Africa. We combine socioeconomic and fertility data from 10 rounds of Burkina Faso, Guinea, Nigeria and Mali ’s Demographic and Health Surveys and long-term high resolution spatial temperature and precipitation records to assess how women and households adapt their fertility preferences and births in response to exposure to local temperature and precipitation anomalies. 2. 2. Precipitation variability modulates the terrestrial carbon cycle in Scandinavia

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Ella Ek; [2021]
    Keywords : Terrestrial carbon cycle; NDVI; Precipitation variability; EOF analysis; Scandinavia; Terrestra kolcykeln; NDVI; Nederbördsvariation; EOF analys; Skandinavien;

    Abstract : Climate variability and the carbon cycle (C-cycle) are tied together in complex feedback loops and due to these complexities there are still knowledge-gaps of this coupling. However, to make accurate predictions of future climate, profound understanding of the C-cycle and climate variability is essential. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vegetation-climate interactions in California – an in-depth analysis on the influence of climatic events across different Californian biomes

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Felipe Fileni; [2021]
    Keywords : droughts; climate vegetation interactions; SPEI; NDVI; California;

    Abstract : It is widely accepted that climate variability is a key driver of vegetation productivity. Yet, there are discrepancies on the ideal timescales of climatic events and vegetation response. The work herein attempts to clarify how those variables interact in the region of California. 4. 4. Can Export Diversification Save sub-Saharan Africa from Extreme Weather? : An instrumental variable approach

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Joanna Arnarsdottir; Kristina Hansson; [2021]
    Keywords : Diversification; precipitation anomalies; conditional convergence; economic development; sub-Saharan Africa SSA ; 2SLS; IV estimations; climate change;

    Abstract : Growth and development in the context of climate change and environmental challengesare issues of increasing importance in the economic debate. With higher levels of greenhousegases in the atmosphere, droughts and other forms of extreme weather are expected to increasein frequency. READ MORE

  5. 5. ENSO teleconnections - Analysis of time lag between tropical Pacific sea surface temperature and climate and vegetation anomalies

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Jiri Navrátil; [2020]
    Keywords : Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; ENSO; teleconnections; climate; NDVI; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) affects weather and climate in regions spread all around the Earth via teleconnections. While quite a lot of research has been done on recognizing what regions are affected by these and what is the sign of the associated temperature, rainfall and vegetation anomalies, not that much attention has been paid to the timing of the impacts with respect to the ENSO state.
